MEP 12 Lost Mpeg function?

victorn57 wrote on 4/8/2012, 6:27 PM

I bought and install MEP 12 from old stock yet still sealed and new. It was working okay and i was able to burn several dvds within a week with no problem. I went back and redited the same original dvd disks and now it keeps telling me to turn off Smart Rendering? It says to turn off Smart Rendering which i do and it will only burn one chapter out of the 8, useless and just wasting blank dvds for nothing? It will not burn more than one or two chapters out of 6 or 8?

So i reinstalled it again which by the way never asked me for serial number or disk code number? It got installed okay, but then went through the same process and edited some dvds and once again it keeps telling me to turn off Smart Rendering, this thing has lost some codecs or something and just can't burn any dvds any more? I checked the activation features and Mpeg is already grayed out, meaning i don't have to activate it, but i think it has to do with some missing codec or something?

Magix support is useless like always unless you are working with their recent version, an alert told me that this particular version is no longer supported by them, meaning i am screwed with this junk i bought even though it was sealed and brand new in the box, never activated but from me only. How many times can you reinstall MEP 12 in the same computer, if it has a limit number of times what are they?, then how can i get another activation code?

Anyone with some tips or an answer would be very much appreciated.

Hi

MEP 12 is old software and you cannot expect to get support for something which is 6 versions out of date and is incompatable with Windows 7.

The only solution is to get one of the later versions ie 17 or MX.

If you are wanting to edit HD video then you also need a powerful computer eg Intel quad core processor 4-16Gb RAM, big hard drives(s) and Win7 64bit .

Hi John,

Thanks for the info on this, i do realize this MEP12 is versions old compared to MEP17 but it should work properly being that it was new and working correct just a few weeks ago. I never touched the settings as it burned my dvds perfect, then all this happen?

Funny thing is that i'm working with old analog tapes transferred into dvd disk by me, i am not interested in HD or anything else, i have Vista 64bit and XP with plenty of Ram and HD storage. I am using MEP12 on my XP machine and being that its an old version, it should be working good on my XP computer?

I am running Corel X5 and Serif X5 on my Vista and they work flawless, no problems what so ever, its this MEP 12 on my XP that is the problem? I think i will just toss it into the trash and go with more stable programs like Adobe, Corel...etc?

Hi Vick

Have you had a load of Windows updates aplied since you installed MEP12 or installed other video software,  converters or codec packs?

Also try updating the Burn Routines available here http://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download/tools

I used to have MEP 11 was a very stable product and I would think 12 was as well - I made the jump from 11 to 14 so never had 12.

Hi John,

You are correct in that i did install 3 XP updates but this was way back in March the 13, they were security updates only. As for as converters or other codecs being installed none what so ever.

What i don't understand is that i reinstalled MEP12, why didn't it ask for the serial number or disk code? Well anyway, i reinstalled it hoping it was a glitch in the first installation and nothing, it went back to doing the same thing asking me to unclick Smart Rendering other wise it could not continue burning my dvd? So once again i turned off Smart Rendering and again it keeps burning 2 chapters out of the 6 i had edited?

I already did the Burn Routine and this other one patch from Magix dealing with changing some German menu to English, but so far nothings worked for me.

You mentioned MEP11 as being very stable, well this MEP12 was very stable too, i loved it even though its an old version, so sad that reinstalling it has not changed anything?

One test i did do was to quickly drag the demo file in the time line and burn that DEMO movie file which is included in the movie pool and i did menus and chapters and cuts....etc. Now when i burned that Demo, it burned okay, all chapters worked and it never asked me to turn off Smart Rendering, whats up with that deal? But when i try to burn my homemade dvds which i had already done so earlier, now they won't burn correctly?
