Memory Handling on Video Pro X2.5 Ver 9.07.14

I  have been  using Video Pro X2.5 (Version 9.07.14) for a number of years now, and wondered why the program dosent accesses all my memory. I work with live bands and record 16 track audio and shoot video with six cameras using massive HHD files.

when i go into resource centre (Win7 64Bit) I never seem to use anymore than 2 - 3Gb ram although i have 16Gb installed.

I am sure that the general performance of the video suit and rendering times would increase if all my memory was to be used. I am not even sure if this version of Video Pro is even 64Bit?

Any Ideas...

Hi

This is really a Windows issue - if you have a the Windows Page file set then any computer program will use the amount of RAM it needs + the Windows page file.

In your case with 16GB of RAM you can try turning off the Windows Page file forcing thus forcing everything to run in RAM.  This should also give you a performance increase.

If you start to get out of memory errors, turn on the page file system again but restrict the amount of space used to say 1GB initially and then increase in 1GB intervals if you continue to get memory errors.

John,

Isn't it also the case that since VPX is a 32 bit program it can't/won't use more than about 3 Gig anyway?

Hi Jeff

Yes and No - it depends if there is hardware support for page re-mapping, which gives the program a window of a few pages into a larger area of memory and if the program can control the remapping.

However the issue really is with 16 Gb of RAM, the Windows page file on the HDD should not be necessary, forcing Windows to run more in RAM will give a performance increase.
