Manually create chapters

cfletcher1972 wrote on 5/2/2013, 8:40 PM

This is shocking... we are new users of this app, but are computer savvy and cannot find the answer to this question in the apps help, or in the online forum.

We just want to manually specify where chapters will begin, and of course have that displayed on the title menu. The content we have found all talks about the application automatically doing scene and chapter detection, but we want to specify. Like I would think you could right-click on scene 43 and there would be a command like "mark chapter" and I would click that, give the chapter a name... and move on.

Thanks in advance,

Craig and Chelle....

Craig & Chelle,

It's there -- right click as you assume -- but you need to place the playback cursor at the spot you want and click in the timelines above the tracks, not on the video clips.

Then right click on the little blue markers to bring up a rename menu. Note: if you change a chapter name in the burn edit window the name on the timelines doesn't change. :-(

Did you check Help and search for 'chapter'? It's all there.

Regards,

Carl

Carl,

Thank you for your reply. I did check the help and read what you are saying here.. but our problem is, all of the marker commands (set chapter marker, etc.) are all grayed out. Any idea why?

Also, in your reply, why is there not a simple "reply" button so I could reply to your reply? How best to do that? Boy I am feeling stupid...but I'm really not! The best thing I could see to do was to also reply to this, OR send you a private message, which I will also do.

Thanks

Craig

As to the commands greyed out, are you working in Storboard Modus ?  Change to Timeline modus!!

No idea...

I laways get the proper options when I right click in the timeline above the track even if there are no object present! Markers are set at the 'time' location which can be a nuisance if you delete a clip -- your projects is shortened but the chapter marker remain at their original locations.

The button asolei has marked in his image is another way of doing the job. In storyboard mode the are no timelines at all hence no right click menu.

Hi

There are three ways of setting chapter markers -

   1.   As Carl has answered you

   2.    As aseoli has answered

   3.    After positioning the timeline marker press  Shift + Enter.

You must be in timeline mode  - this is what timeline mode looks like

and you click this button to get it
