Major problems with SF13

Version 13.0 (Build 124) 64-bit

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
I just installed version 13 for the first time and am having a really bad experience. It's so bad, I know that it couldn't possibly have been released like this, so I'm looking for advice on what I might have done wrong. Also, I had version 12, but installing 13 has messed that up now such that it no longer works. I've had to revert to Sony's v11.
Just to give you an example of how messed up v13 is, the CTRL key won't work for many functions. I pressed CTRL S and it wouldn't save. I had to click the Save icon. Then I did more editing and the Save icon became ghosted, so I had to use Save As. Then I did more editing and the Save As icon became ghosted, too, so now the only way I could save my work was to close the file so that SF would prompt me to Save before closing. Also, the play cursor disappears when I press play so I've no idea what part of the audio file is playing. Additionally, when I run Izotope plugins, such as Neutron 64-bit, I can cycle through all my user-made presets, but the EQ graph remains flat, i.e. it's not actually loading in any of the presets properly.

Sony's v11 has been keeping me going, but now I have new audio to edit and need to use my Izotope plugins, but they won't work with 11, so I'm effectively in limbo.

Has anyone had any experiences like the above? Do you think it would make a difference if I uninstalled v12 before installing v13? I was reluctant to do this because all my presets are in v12 and I don't want to lose them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have not experienced or read of that behavior before.

I can only suggest, uninstalling both 12 and 13 with a third-party uninstaller like the freeware Revo Uninstall, which has the option to select and delete the pertinent old registry entries. Some of the presets and customization settings are in your 'username> Appdata> Roaming> (or Local) SOUND FORGE Pro' folder. Others are in the SF 'Program files' folder. Some are reg entries and can not easily copied. I am not aware of an efficient app to copy the FX presets since the SCS 'Preset Manger' does not work with later versions of SF

NOTE: Appdata is a 'system' folder and normally hidden.

Hi Rick, thanks very much for your response. I took your advice and downloaded Revo Uninstaller, but I have to say, when I saw the list of registry entries and files it was going to install, I felt very unsure about some of them and skipped that stage, letting it just do a normal uninstall. I uninstalled the programs in reverse order; so 13 first and then 12. I still have 10 and 11 but because they're Sony and are in totally different paths, they don't seem to be causing any issues. I will uninstall them eventually.

I then checked my MAGIX account and saw that it had automatically deregistered SF13, which was good to see.

Installation of SF13 went smoothly enough. It did prompt me to remove Update Notifier at the end (it must have been still installed) so I clicked cancel and was brought back to the SF installer which had everything ticked except Update Installer, which now had a yellow triangle beside it. This was a tad awkward as the installer remained on-screen and I had to click Cancel.

I then ran SF13 and entered my serial number, etc. and it then seemed to try to install Update Notifier again but the window flickered on and off because it was already there. Anyway, I'm just mentioning these things as it's good to learn of these little issues with the installer in case anyone else has similar problems.

I ran the SF13 and thankfully, most things are working. The Save hotkey is working fine; the play cursor doesn't disappear and believe it or not, it already remembered all my toolbar configurations from the last install, even though it kept forgetting them in the last install! I have even been able to add a hotkey, which it wouldn't let me do before.

The only issue I seem to have now is with Isotope Neutron. When I run it in SF13 I can cycle through my presets, but none of them are actually loading. The EQ graph remains flat as though it's been reset. I'll trying doing a refresh to see if it'll look for my Izotope plugins again, but when I did this with the previous install, it completely lost my Izotope plugins even though I was pointing it to the correct folders.

Anyway, I'll try a few more things and get back to you, but your help here has been invaluable and I appreciate your responsiveness. You're always the first to respond about SF issues, Rick and it's much appreciated.

Thanks.

Glad to be of help @Paul-Fegan .

I do not use Neutron, but I have experienced where other plug-in presets are loaded but the desired preset is not after some kind of system alteration or importing from another PC, even if the file paths are the same. I have notified 'the powers that be' an updated Preset Manager is needed. Do not know if it will happen.

Thanks, Rick. We definitely need some sort of Preset Manager that would make upgrading life so much simpler. I have also asked for this, too.

However, this seems to be a different issue, where I can point to the correct presets and they just don't work. Very odd and frustrating, but I'm sure it's just a teething issue. Thanks again.
