Magix Music Maker - Saving MIDI "Takes" in Arranger and Understanding how to incorporate them into production processes

gmannhtown wrote on 10/20/2016, 1:35 PM

I have discovered how to save takes (Right click on object in arranger track and select "Additional Options", then "Save Object as Take" when recording from a MIDI device, however, have not come to understand how to switch between the takes or perhaps do not understand how to incorporate takes into my composition process. It seems the intent is perhaps to capture each take as a completed file that one can save and revert to later during the session, which is great in case things go from bad to worse, or segments of each take become useful for later compiling into a final completed file.

Can a knowledgeable person please advise me as to the intent of saving takes and how to use them in an effective manner?

Using Magix Music Maker 2015 Version 21.0.4.50 (UDPP3) on Windows10 PC with Samson MIDI interface device.

Hi

If you have not done so look up Takes, Load loops and Save objects as takes in the PDF manual available under Help.

AFAICS there are no tutorials available on using takes, however the manual should give a good idea of what you can do.

Thanks for your reply. I have reviewed the pdf manual. Here is what I find in the manual:

"Takes

Every object can be saved as a "Take". Takes save all editing done on an object, like
object length, fade settings and all object effects. MIDI takes save the instrument
controlled by them (MIDI output or software instrument).

Takes are saved as "TAK" (*.tak) files and take up virtually no space on the hard disk.
This means you can cut a sample, add various effects to it and save it as various takes in
order to use these together with all their editing in other MAGIX Music Maker 2015
Premium projects. Instead of repeatedly saving the original sample, only the object and
effect settings are saved. You can also save Synth objects as takes which creates your
own preset libraries for the synthesizer.

The MIDI loops included with MAGIX Music Maker 2015 Premium (you'll
recognize them in the Media Pool by this icon) are also takes because the MIDI
files (view page 82) only sound the way they were intended when combined
with the right synthesizer sound.

Attention When loading takes, the audio or video file for which the take was added
must be in the original folder.

Keyboard shortcut: Alt + Shift + S'

I am still not fully clear on how to incorporate or "load" the takes I have created. I see them in the folder where my project is located, but not sure how to incoporate the take. I do see the note about locating the Take in the origninal folder. Does this mean the original folder for the object or origninal folder for the project? Otherwise,  I will need to experiment further ASAP and share what I learn. I feel certain my ignorance is to blame here and I am probably making what is most likely quite simple an overly complex concept in my mind,  but I do desire to understand this .

Hi

. . . . I am still not fully clear on how to incorporate or "load" the takes I have created. I see them in the folder where my project is located . . . .

Takes are used in the same way as any other image or video object.  Drag them to the timeline from the takes folder.

You can apply further effects etc as required or remove the effects saved with the take.

I see now. Very simple and logical. I took one object from DN-e1, modified various instrument settings - saved it as one take, then made additional changes to alter the sound and again saved as a take. Created two takes, then just as you stated, I was able to drag these back onto the arranger separately on different tracks and they maintained the unique settings I created under each take. Thanks for the help.
