Magix Movie Studio 2023. Can it run vf files?

Clive-Bramham wrote on 12/27/2022, 2:19 PM

Is it correct that Magix Movie Studio 2023 is unable to run and render vf projects? I have been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 on a Windows 7 pc. I am now on a new pc with windows 11 and will be using Resolve or possibly Magix for edting 4K videos from an FX6 camera. Ideally, I would be able to use the windows 11 pc to continue work on VMS vf projects. Is that possible? I am unable to install VMS from the Magix center; it downloads but does not complete installation. Thanks very much!

@Clive-Bramham

Hi Clive and welcome to the user to user forums.

Movie Studio 2023 is not a Vegas based product and will only give you the clips imported in the correct order from a previous Vegas Movie studio product from version 17 and earlier. To be able to continue working fully with such files you would need a Vegas Pro program. If you want to continue using such files there is a slightly older version of Vegas Pro on sale very cheap for a few days at HumbleBundle. One, it is a full version of the program.I have it myself, and Two. You will not need to learn a new workflow. Three, it is on offer very cheaply.

[Edit]

Disable your firewall and any antivirus programs while downloading any Vegas or Magix products or the downloads may well get blocked from downloading as the verification processes involved may trigger a false positive for a virus threat.

Thanks for your heads up! So, Vegas Pro 18 will work with VMS 10 projects and would give me a familiar workflow for the 4K editing, even if I go for Resolve. Would you know if VMS 10, if I can get it to download, runs on Windows 11? I don't believe it does.

@Clive-Bramham

Hi.

My experience with the Vegas side of things doesn't go back that far but I doubt Vegas 10 would run on Windows 11, or if it did would not run well. Certainly Magix products wouldn't be compatible going back that far, and even opening projects that old with newer programs often causes problems as older plugins are often missing in the newer versions or have been replaced and not recognised by the program reading the old project file. If you do open an old project with a new version of a compatible program with no problems consider yourself extremely lucky.

Also before updating any program for a new version make sure your system is capable of running the program.

The minimum specs for running the program I'm pointing you towards should be similar to current requirements for Vegas Pro 20 which are.

Those are the guidelines I used before deciding to buy the Humblebundle offering which also includes Movie Edit Pro 2022 which has similar requirements to run smoothly but does not fully work with veg files.

Ray.

Thanks again. Just wanted to let you know that my old Vegas 10 platinum vf projects work fine on Vegas 18 Pro. Rendering is fine. Vegas 18 captured all my settings. I have been using several standard sony plug-ins and some text. The plug-in editors are different (better) and they work.

@Clive-Bramham I guess you can mark @CubeAce post as the solution to your problem!

As for Resolve, I have Resolve Studio 18. And while it has some amazing features and a robust back end, I use if for specific projects only. I can't bring myself to abandon "all" for it. Especially when using nodes.

Use the right tool for the right editing job.
