Magix 2020 with Windows 10 - not a very good combo...however if...

(Sorry in advance if this sounds like a rant)
After numerous re-installs of the latest Magix 2020 on several computers with fresh Windows 10 - MMM 2020 never gets stable enough for intensive music production.

I've helped my wife - who's the true music-maker in our family - with quite a few support requests to Magix as well and since we started to file reports about the instability in late 2019 not a single update has been released by Magix..:(

Not even the automatic project backup within the application is reliable - 1 out of 30 projects maybe gets a project backup copy. Seriously bad Magix IMO.

Both the arranger and file browser are subjects to frequent crashes and application lockups way more often than expected for what Magix calls "The best version ever of Magix Music Maker".
Unsupported files has been removed as suggested by Magix support staff but the issue re-occours later with other supported files...

And...if someone claims the application is for free, that is only partly true, the loops and instruments plus more are being paid for and they still need a stable foundation to rely on.

As the subject implied, however if...just for the fun of it, I created a virtual machine with Win7-64bit and 12GB memory on one of the Windows 10 hosts where we have Magix installed and guess what? MMM 2020 now runs way more stable with the same amount of loops and visual effects + video media - from what I've read, other users of MMM on Windows 10 are having problems as we speak, why is nothing being made to fix this???

Hi

. . . . After numerous re-installs of the latest Magix 2020 on several computers with fresh Windows 10 . . . .

Did you cleanup the files left behind after the uninstalls, the un-installer knows nothing about them so cannot remove them and if they are not removed the re-installation does not achieve anything.

Download and install Revo Uninstaller and use it to uninstall the software and then do a cleanup afterwards.

Which version of Windows 10 and its build number?

Yes, the re-installs was on other computers with fresh OS's on them without anything else than the bare OS to start with - i.e.no files left behind. I really tried to get it working on Windows 10 but for now MMM on the virtual Win 7 has survived for a whole long day(!) - that's pretty much a record for the MMM 2020...at least with the workflow my wife's is putting MMM through.
The reason for trying on other computers is to definitely rule out anything left behind, I'm an IT system engineer by profession for the last 20 years and know how important it is with a base-line as a starting point.

The Win 10 currently in use is:

Windows 10 Pro
Version 1909 (the same with 1809, 1903 prior to this version)
OS-version (build) 18363.778 - changes every month with the monthly updates

I'm having the same experience. I had a 2017 PC and I was running Magix Music Maker 2020. The program would freeze up, no error code...nothing. Now, Today, I have a new PC $1400 worth. NO other version of MMM exist in this new PC. I have one simple Nektar 61 key keyboard plugged in for Midi. I have only 10 simple tracks using some vita instruments. I'm using the ASIO driver. However when I add a new track, the program locks up and I have to force quit using task manager. When I had my last PC, tech support and all 35 emails could not provide a solution. I'm at the bottom here...Ive been using MMM since they first came out and I dont want to learn another DAW. I also have over 100 songs created using MMM already, to switch would be tossing everything I've done....There has GOT to be an answer or solution to this as I am not the only one having this issue.

Yes, the not-responding status has been quite common with MMM being used on Windows 10.

Currently I'm restoring one of my older laptops (still Core i7) back to Windows 7 (not recommended btw.) just to be able to provide a stable solution with MMM for now.

I'm not only getting a program that locks up but at random I get this horrible crackling sounds and skipping sound issue. Even though I have adjusted the buffers. Today I spent 15 hours dissecting the hell out of this problem and I cannot find any answers however....I get this issue using all the drivers except the Wave Driver at 16 bits....It plays like a charm even upto 18 tracks...but I can no longer record anything on the music keyboard....I think it's safe to say this is a driver issue that Magix needs to address!

I hope to be able to continue to use MM on certain occasions, as I spent a fair amount of money on soundpools and instruments, and am especially fond of several of the instruments. But I too have been disheartened by the continuous onset of instabilities in performance over the last couple of years after reengaging in composition projects. My computer is not high end so I do not have the highest expectations, but I do require stability for what I regard as modest projects. I am not forsaking MM entirely as there are specific niches that I may still be able to fill.

Truth is, however, I have finally decided to move more often into a alternative DAW. I regard CuBase Elements as an excellent value, and the learning curve overlaps with MM quite a bit as far as I am concerned. Stability is no issue on that front so far with my modest system, and it is a dream to part from some of the frustrations that seem to have a recurring theme in MM.

Allowing crossover use of VSTs, as most DAWs and VST producers seem to, would be big plus to be able to continue with MM, but the MM proprietary attitude further curtails MM integrations within my projects. I will keep an eye on the MM software development as I have a long history with the software also, but it is fair to say there have been some major advances in DAW developments over the years with many good products to consider for use. I hope that MM will work hard and pay close attention to their customer base to maintain market share, as music technology is quite innovative and increasingly affordable over the last decade or two.

Best regards, CEC.
