Magix 2013-- each time it replays from beginning of projec t!

jsnyder wrote on 4/27/2013, 5:10 PM

I have just started making a 40 minute video, but each time I make a change and want to see that change, I hit the play button and it goes back to the very start of the movie.. not the part where the instert pointer is.  How do I get it to play just from a certain point in the movie??  I've tried everything, it keeps starting at the beginning!

I'm very annoyed I bought the upgrade.. I was doing just fine in the earlier version.

 thanks!!

jsnyder,

Under program settings, [Y] key shortcut, are a couple of options you can change:

  • Playback tab has 'Spacebar stops at current current playback position'
  • System tab has 'Move play cursor when object is selected'

Hope this helps,

Carl

Carl: Oddly, I have exactly the same problem! With just my current project. All others play correctly from the orange marker as usual. But for this project MEP 2013 Premium 12.0.3.4 (UDC2) has suddeny started playing from the start of the movie. This is regardless of those two settings, which should not after all have any effect on where playback starts from.

jsnyder: Try this work-around which was the only way I could proceed. File > Manage Movie > New then copy all the timeline from your problematic movie and paste it into the new one. In my case, playback then resumed normal service.

Normally I resolve quirks like this by closing and restarting MEP, but that didn't work in this case. It seems that a project can become corrupted permanently in some way that causes this behaviour. With such an intermittent and obscure problem it's hard to say if it's confined to MEP 2013, although I don't recall it with previous versions.

Hi

I also found this works:-

With the project loaded turn off the 'Spacebar stops at current current playback position' save the project and close MEP

Restart MEP - load the project and turn the setting back on again, save the project.

Restart MEP and reload the project again.

@Terry

. . . . it's hard to say if it's confined to MEP 2013, although I don't recall it with previous versions . . .

I have had this problem intermittently with all versions from MEP15 onwards, MEP 2013 is the one version which has been the most rare for me (so far!).

I have had this problem on and off as have others from back as far as MEP2005. Similar to John, I have not had it yet in 2013. I used Terry's method in the past.

I have seen random jumpbacks way down the timeline after adding and previewing transitions and effects also (speed was one) when resuming playback. Repositioning the marker back to the current clip or undoing the effect fixed it in those cases.

Hi all,

Here's something to try if you get locked into this situation with one of your projects that might save you some hassle: Simply use the function to optimize the timeline view in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. This should fix it.

The reasons why this problem is happening are somewhat obscure. So, if anybody manages to figure it out and comes up with a reliable way to produce this problem situation in a project, we'd be glad to hear about it. It seems to be our observation that this problem is already not as prevalent anymore in the current version, which seems to be confirmed by some of your observations as well.

Happy video editing!

Hi

It can be done more easily,  providing you follow these rules:-

  1.   You both must have an identical file/folder structure - below is an image of the file/folder structure I use for my projects.

  2.   The files used must have the same names

  3.   The project file must be stored in the same folder location relative to all the resources used and with a different name.

Once this is done, then you need only copy the second users project file to your computer - putting it in the same location.

Then import this as a second movie to your project and copy/paste the appropriate bits from timeline 2 to timeline 1 .

You can then remove the second timeline from the project and continue working on the original which now has the imported project included.

As this is a different issue I'd suggest you raise it with a new subject heading in a new thread.

Edit: But as John has already answered it, maybe not!
