.m4v Import using Movie Edit 2015 Pro Plus

philmoore wrote on 9/13/2014, 2:46 PM

I just installed Movie Edit Pro Plus 2015 and I've been using the 2013 for a few years. I don't have any problem importing M4V files in older versions but in 2015 is says the file cannont be read (see image for error). This is happening with all M4V files (I tried import 3 different files - all had the same error).

However, I can import and edit the file just fine in 2013. Any reason why I get this error in 2015?

Hi Phil,

It appears that you're trying to read from Eli's documents but you probably logged in as Phi. Maybe.

Try right-clicking on the MEP2015 icon on your desktop, and run as Administrator. Let us know if this helps.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I tried running as an admin and the results where the same. Some additional info is I am the admin on this machine... The peculiar thing is it works fine in 2013. I guess I would expect it to work in 2015 too. I'm open to any other ideas. Thoughts?

browj2 wrote on 9/13/2014, 3:17 PM

Do you have any problem with other types of video, audio, or image files?

Did you try importing from some other folder?

I am the Admin as well, but sometimes I get the message saying to run as Admin, or contact Admin. Must be left over from Bill G.

Good questions. I can import JPG, MOV files just fine. I also tried loading a movie directly from the C root. Same issue. I'm getting stumped....

browj2 wrote on 9/13/2014, 3:58 PM

Sounds like a bug. We'll have to see if someone else can replicate it.

Thanks for the quick replies and engagement. I'm new to Magix support (never had to use support before). Do I submit this to official Maigx tech support? How to escalate the issue?

browj2 wrote on 9/13/2014, 5:19 PM

Go to Technical Support on the Magix site, and select make a request on line. I presume that you have registered and have a password. If not, do so.

There is no one there on the weekend and they work German hours, so don't expect a reply until Monday. You will receive an email reply with a ticket number and then someone will reply. Then if you need to send supplementary info you can just reply to the email. They are quite good and knowledgeable.

Good luck!

Interesting additional facts:

  1. I installed the MEP 2015 on a different computer and the same results happened (can't open the .m4v)
  2. I changed the extension of the .m4v file to a .mp4 and the file opened just fine in MEP 2015.

Greetings Phil

I've just tried a couple of m4v's thst I have and they both loaded, edited and played without any problem. I know that doesn't help you but it does (maybe) show that MEP2015 may not be at fault.

Sorry I can't be more help.

I ended up working with Magix technical support and here was the final solution that worked on my machine:

  1. Go to the program help menu, and choose activate additional, Main Concept MPEG4 codec.
  2. After this is done then go into the program settings (short cut key Y)
  3. Under system, select preferred MPEG4 codec, main concept.
  4. Then select OK. You might need to restart the program but after this is done try loading your video.

Thanks everyone for your comment and support.
