Looking to use this OPENING in newest video.

FF22 wrote on 2/1/2025, 1:16 PM

I would like to use this opening method in my new video. Where the letters somewhat overlap and then drop off the screen while overlaying the underlying photo. I can't seem to find this video effect either in templates or intro/outro or...Is this a standard opening type of sequence?

While I have saved this opening separately. I can't seem to copy and paste it into the new video where I'd edit it for my new movie.

@FF22 The start of that clip the letters are 'Raining' or 'Falling' & the end is 'Blown away', I can't look in MMS at the moment to see if they're in there & if they are what they're called.

HI,

It looks like it came from BluffTitler using the character explosion effect with some position keyframing. I was sure that I came across almost the same thing the other day, but can't find it. The closest is I could find is called Lime1 under the text templates that come with BluffTitler.

BluffTitler - keyframe X and Y and Flexibility would be 1 0 1.

Give me a text and I'll show you an example, but only a single layer. Your example has the text twice, one behind the other to give a greater effect.

Hi

If you do not have Bluff titler and MMS 2020 has the Dynamic titles category, the Gentle Breeze title does a similar effect.

If you do not want the text to be immediately displayed trim the start to where the text is initially static.

The downside is the Dynamic titles are not full editable, eg no 3D effect, however you can use effects Size, Positon and Rotation and the Speed effect to slow it down, plus some others on the title.

Hi.

To enlarge on the suggestion by @johnebaker , A lot can be done with a little imagination. I combined Gentle Breeze with Blown by the Wind. Matched the text type, (colour-almost, needs fine tuning) and size and placed back to back but shortening the second clip until the texts aligned.

You could export any titles as video files and then re-import them to add other effects to them and then use the green screen plugin to blend them into the background. You can also add a transition to the beginning or end of any title you re-import as a video file as an alternative fade in or out. Video files can also be reversed, resized, flipped, distorted, blurred, any number of things.

To get the splitting of the letters effect just duplicate (Paste and copy) and delay slightly on the next track down and change the text colour. If you don't need that to happen at the beginning, just shorten the start of the bottom copied clip from the start of it.

Ray.

Thanks for both of your suggestions. I've come to a close approximation.

Sort of expanding the topic. I was sure that in the past I was able to copy/paste that opening title from its original project file into a new one and then edit the text and picture. But while COPY was available, I could not employ a PASTE. I had both projects/movies open. Jumped between them but never was able to copy (essentially move) that opening to the new (current) project.

I have to admit, that I don't go on vacation (can you take vacation from retirement?) often enough and get rusty using Magix. 😁

Hi.

If the clip is in a project then the file must reside on a connected drive somewhere. Just right click the clip and select properties and it will give you the name and location of that file. You can then find the file's location and directly import it from there.

Hi

. . . .  I was sure that in the past I was able to copy/paste that opening title from its original project file into a new one  . . . .

To copy from one project to another is possible there a several methods, the easiest is with the project you want copy to loaded in MMS first then:-

  • open the project containing the item to be copied - you will get a popup message

Click Add new project - this will add it as a second timeline

  • Copy the required item(s) switch to the first timeline and paste where required.

  • Remove the imported project by clcking the X on its tab.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray

That is a neat combination for the title.

Below is a 'fake' drop shadow version created by duplicating the title, changing the colour of the text and using Size, Position Rotation to offset the duplicate, and keyframe to move down further on exit.

Hi,

Those are pretty nice titles!

I am wondering how Magix made the Gentle Breeze title and why they don't make an interface so that we can modify the parameters.

Since I brought up using BluffTitler, I thought that I had better play around with it to see if I really could reproduce something close to Gentle Breeze. Then I played with some of the parameters to get different scenarios. I learned a lot more about BT.

Here is my effort. I should have made the static part at the beginning longer, but the goal was more on getting the effect. You can see the 3D text better in some of the examples than others.

Hi John.

Those titles are very similar to those that come as some basic templates with the Boris Effects Titler.

Once you get used to how to edit the titles it would be relatively easy to make those and save them as templates.

I made a ton of custom graphics during 2022 -2023 with it.

Unfortunately since rebuilding my C: drive my copy of Boris Titler's activation code has expired.

Hi,

No, it's a completely separate program. Take a look here. Watch some of the videos and look at the various Bixpacks.

I have several BixPacks that I use, modifying just whatever is necessary, like the text and images.

For the titles, I export to uncompressed avi with transparency. This opens nicely in Movie Studio.

The program comes with many templates that go a long way to helping the user to understand how to do things, and many are quite useful on their own.

Once I find one I like, I modify it for my use. If you look at my recent tutorials, you'll see the various topics start with a lower third. This comes from a BluffTitler Bixpack template, modified by me.

Blufftitler is sometimes known as the poor man's After Effects. Other than the low price, rendering is a whole lot quicker with BT than AE. BluffTitler works in 3D space and you can use 3D models (created in other programs).

Hi Ray,

Take a look at the BluffTitler site. You can do a lot more with BluffTitler than with Boris Titler. I did take a stab at Boris Titler way back and gave up; too much to learn and BluffTitler has enough of a learning curve if you want to create your own material. That said, Boris Titler certainly has a lot of very nice templates.

In BluffTitler, you can include images, video, audio. You can put a photo on a ball, for example.

Here are a couple of intros that I did recently using templates from a couple of BixPacks. It would have been good to have had a nice photo for the first one - I had to take a screen shot from the video.

Well... I don't know if you can do a lot more than Boris Title Studio. But I've had Bluff "forever". For the price, it is an amazing piece of kit. Downside? It is not a plugin.

Now.... if they ever made an OFX version, I am sure that it might do quite well.

Hi John.

Well, I have used the Boris Particle Illusion program for as long as there has been a free download version and Boris Titler has the same workflow so personally I didn't find it that difficult to use. The examples you give could just as easily be created in The NewBlue Titler Pro if you have it although NewBlue Titler is more clunky and slower in use than the Boris one. For me it came down to the way I could use textures and the amount of and quality of the different textures it had.

Most of the time though I am happy to create my own within MMS or VPX. Sometimes using Particle Illusion or Photoshop to provide backgrounds or additional textures.

I think initially I was influenced by the sort of flashy titles you see in feature films, but studying TV programs has shown me simpler often works better. Yes the workflow is often slower using more than one program to do a given task but I have plenty of time. It also gives the end result something not easily copied or seen elsewhere.

I'm also a flitterer and will get bored with a project and will flip from photo editing to music composition to video editing in the same evening, (as well as hopping on and off the various forums) saving as I go and opening a project again when the mood takes me. I also find giving myself a break from a given task and going back to it later prevents a lot of misjudgements or I can see faults I previously could not if I later go back and take a free look/listen with a fresh pair of eyes/ears.

Even the little editor that comes with VPX has it's place and can be useful but I rarely use it.

The basics that come with either MMS or VPX is sufficient for 99% of anything I do titling wise and the only thing I miss is the thickness and lighting positions along with the variable textures of the 3D titles when I occasionally rotated them or put them at an angle which was easy within Boris titling but I can now use the NewBlue Titler instead. I knocked this one up a few moments ago.

The video below was for my grandson when we took him to Harry Potter world so as such these sections have no sound. Made with basic editing of text within MMS and exported to Photoshop to get a more 3D look and used Particle Illusion to provide backgrounds and effects.

Really a lot can be done with just the base programs.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

Very nice. I added in some water, the Chatham Dockyard and some audio. I learned some new tricks in BluffTitler with this. I used BluffTitler entirely for this quick video except for the audio part.

There is a guy on the TalkGraphics forum who made a hollow earth using 3d Maker6. You can see the gif of it as his avatar. Someone had too much time on his hands, I guess.

I spent a few hours looking at Boris Title Studio. It's similar to BluffTitler, doesn't have some of the layer features of BluffTitler (Water, Landscape, Skybox, Waving Flag) at least as far as I can tell, but it has drawing tools, unlike BluffTitler. Very nice. Putting together a complicated graphic is about the same - labourious.

BluffTitler has 3D model articulation of joints. Not something that I would use.

In Boris, I was looking for the effect that does similar to the Gentle Breeze title of MMS. Anyone know how to do i in Boris Title Studio?

Hi,

In BluffTitler, the water layer comes with a bunch of parameters and FX:

along with an Alphamap texture for the foam.

Other than text, objects can float in the water. For example, the screw head in the image below is actually bobbing in the water:

I should have used a boat, but don't have a boat png with transparency handy.
