Ian-Hamilton wrote on 3/23/2024, 3:36 AM

Wonder if anyone can help?

Uploaded a website and done some SEO checks etc. Telling me that the language for the website is Polish. Its not, whole website in English as from the UK. Also went on some ones laptop yesterday to look at website and the browser was asking if I wanted it translated from Polish.

Any ideas.

Hi

Is this your sons website on Siteground?

If so it is working fine for me.

If not, and the site is not a personal/private site, what is the URL?

HI john

This is for someone else: www.sbcakeatelier.co.uk.

Site works well etc, just this thing about the language on SEO check etc. Not helping the ranking etc.

Thanks

@Ian-Hamilton

Hi

Thanks for the link.

The SEO searches coming up Polish is due to this:

<html lang="pl" class="xr_bgh12" data-lt-installed="true"><head>

 in the very first line of the HTML generated.

AFAICS there is no option in Xara Web Designer to set this. I would assume this is coming from your computer.

@Ian-Hamilton

Hi

. . . . UK based and laptop all in english UK . . . .

Are you using Firefox Beta?

I found this on the TalkGraphics forum - this is the original Xara forum for Xara products.

If I am reading Acorn's reply correctly, it is this setting in Web Designer

Did you check the site in Edge and Google Chrome?

I always recommend testing in at least 3 different browsers.

Dictionary set to UK only. Edge is asking to translate page plus you have picked up on the "pl" in html.

@Ian-Hamilton

Hi

Strange, I have tried viewing the site in Firefox, Edge, Chrome and Opera on my PC, Chrome on my mobile, all current versions and at their default language settings, all show the lang="pl" when viewing the code yet no prompt to translate.

How does the site behave if viewed on your mobile or another computer, if you have one, or someone else?

If the site is fine on another devices, then we are back to your PC as the potential source of the problem.

Hi John

Used the pc at work, and used edge then came up with translate today.

Thursday same thing on friends laptop.

The site works well on mobile and desktop but SEO tools keep saying POLISH.

Which obviously isn't great.

Hi

Apologies for the delay in replying,

I suspect that the language setting for the web site on the sites 'project file' has become 'corrupted' to Polish.

Try the following to reset the language:

  1. Load the project into Web Designer

  2. Select the Text tool then click the ABC spell check icon in the Text toolbar

  3. Change the language setting to any of the alternate languages, you will get this pop-up message

    select Don't change text

  4. Using Save as, give the project with a new name and save.

  5. Restart Web Designer

  6. Load the saved project and repeat the language change back to English (UK)
    .
  7. Save the project again.

This should fix the SEO language issue

Hi John

Well done. It turns out that the document language was set to polish for some reason. Didn't know this existed as the drop-down list shows all the languages. Changed it to UK English and re-uploaded website.

Just did a SEO check and Polish not detected. Plus my page site score went up 4% because of this fix.

So thank you!!!!
