Keyframes

joserobles1941 wrote on 5/2/2016, 8:19 PM

Hi,

This subject has been discussed before so  I apologize for bringing it up again.   So it happens that in spite of having seen quite a few tutorials and having consulted the PDF Manual,  I still find it that I do not have full grasp as to how and when to apply them

So I thought of something that could help me understand their use better.   When I watch tutorials and when I read the manual emphasis is made on what they are but not on how and when to apply them.  And the tutorials run so fast it is very difficult to follow them . If someone could give me a written exlanation, something like step by step,  giving some examples,  I would be very grateful.

Thanks

J. Robles

I am a german, this way I understand more with keyframes and less in the language...

I want to give you one, two ideas...

First: try - so you get experiences and you destroy nothing!

Next: one keyframe alone makes nothing. Between two ore more the adventure start!

Next open the timeline and put in a jpg/picture.

The cursor is at the start position. Now go to the effects and search something wahat means "position and size"

Now you set a keyframe. Go to the end and change now the size and set another keyframe.

Now you can see how it moves......

And now apply and apply for example zoom, pan and also coulor.......

I think when than you have special questions you get answers.....(in english )

Thank you very much for answering.   I ¨ll try what you suggest and see what happens.

PS.  By the way,  I am peruvian.

I tried it and it works !!

But this also carries some additional questions.

Just below the keyframes,  there is this graphic that shows some details I do not know their functions.  It is a list of the effects that have been applied.  What is their purpose and how do I go about working with them?

Thanks again and I hope I do not bother you that much

PS.  By the way,  I am peruvian.

Oh now I understand the clock.....

Here you find a pdf in german language with some pictures, look at page 6, if you mean this.

If it is: There is something about position and size and there you find details: wide and high and also the x and y position and than you can edit each point. Result can be: the wide can be constant and the high grow up.

You can see combinations too. contrast and colour and rotation - whatever you use....

An additional point which I find of great value -- the on track display of effect curves.

Click on the little eye symbol to display a curve.

I find editing here, after starting in the keyframe window, is much easier. If you have more than one effect you can turn individual curves on or off as needed to avoid clutter.

Here's a new (for me) trick:

In the example I've been keyframing the 'Video level' of an all white image that has chrome key  'Alpha' applied. This is a way of easily adjusting fades and jump-cuts between two clips without having to make any actual cuts and rearranging them on a singe timeline.

Carl

Hi José,

Did you try my tutorial on the basics?

Hi Wabu , Terry and Carl.

I just opened my mail and Oh surprise ! I find several answers to my question.  So the first thing I want to do is show my appreciation.

Secondly give some comments on each one of them.   Wabu last night when I went through the PDF file looking at the pictures I thought this is exactly what I want but then the problems was with the language.   I have not experimented with what you suggest on page six.  I will do so today later on the day.  But let me tell you it is an incredible document you have produced.  Reading the reviews,  the littlge German I know,  tell exactly that.  I have printed the document with the hope of findind someone who could translate it for me.

Terry I just watched twice the tutorial and in orden to understand it fully I will have to be very patient and watch it several times.   You have such a deep voice !!  You see I am 75 and English is not my native language.

Carl ,  the advise you give about using the curves I will certainly use once I have  better handling of keyframes.  Thank you very much to all

Hi Jose,

Your written English is so good and I'd therefore assumed you would have no trouble with my spoken narrative. Unfortunately my Peruvian is non-existent!

Come back with specific questions if necessary. But best approach is to just keep trying simple examples until you get the hang of it. I'd stick to Size/Position until then.
