JPG as reference / handle updated JPGs

Have now tried the same test with MEP 2021.

No update to the import view of timeline after and auto update or a save project. Only shutting down and reopening the project changes anything.

Importing a second time should show the modified version - however this is not what I see in VPX12 or MEP 2021.

This looks like a project cache update issue or delay when changes are made to an image using the external editor. In previous versions of MEP/VPX, as soon as a change was detected, the Media pool and timeline were updated immediately.

. . . . when the program did an auto backup the original laid down jpeg also changed to black and white . . . .

As soon as the autosave kicks in, I think the current project cache is cleared, as I would expect, then performs a reload updating everything to the changed versions of the image.

Nice to see that I´m not the only one having this issue and it is reproducable. At some point I thought that I´m just doing something wrong :D

So @johnebaker is it that it updates the image when autosave kicks in? Did I understand right?
And you sent a message to Magix regarding this?

It does in VPX 11 but has broken further in VPX 12 and doesn't.

Hi Ray, ah ok, so it is now entierly "broken" :)

I know that this isn´t probably used a lot. But I adjust some photos/ JPGs, or better to say I finetune them, at the same time I arrange/ adjust the video. So it would be great to see the result immediately and adjust further if needed. Without having to restart/reopen the program/ file.

Usually it works probably like @johnebaker told, that one adjusts the pictures to be rady and importing them to VPX after that.

But let´s hope Magix could fix that so it work better for my process :)

Hi Tobice.

The possible reason John and I work a different way is we both possibly work from raw files rather than jpegs.

To keep re-editing a jpg would mean a loss of definition as each copy is re-compressed on each saving and old photography developing habits die hard even if it would be hard to see in a video.

I have had a reply back from Magix - the external editing issue is going forward to the next developers meeting.

Ray - I rarely work with RAW images video has taken over still photography since retiring.

@CubeAce I´m usually working with RAW too, but saving it as JPG/TIF to import it to VPX. But sometimes also doing some more "fancy" graphical stuff in other programs (I just used the photoshop as an example now to not make the discussion more complicated) and import them as JPG, PNG or TIF to VPX. Same probel with all of them. :)

I do the same, however the editing/adjustments are done independent of VPX, saving the file with the same name plus a suffix and use the Replace mouse mode to drop the edited version on top of the one I placed on the timeline before any movement effects, collage, picture in picture are created.
