jitter and sync problems when importing mp4 or mkv from Zoom

Can't tell you how frustrated I am - using fully up to date MEP 2021. Importing mp4 or mkv video from Zoom webinars. Shows up in the timeline but when I try to trim, there are sync problems and shots suddenly switch back and forth and jitter during playback - there are problems introduced into the video file. THe original that was imported has none of these, but the project files are ruined. Too much time spent trying re-coding, trimming, resyncing - I'm ready to buy another program.

The problem you are having is well known with Zoom recordings and screen recording from programs like OBS.

The problem is the video is variable framerate (VFR) and many video editors do not handle VFR video properly.

The audio is also likely to be 'off', being recorded at a samplerate of 44.1kHz, video standard requires 48kHz sampling.

Running the video through a converter such as Handbrake can fix these issues.

Use these Handbrake settings to do the conversion

Video filter

Audio filter

Note: in the Video filter you will see that h.264 is specified, if the recording is HEVC encoded the conversion to h.264 will reduce the load on your computer.

Thank you for the quick reply - I will try this. I did try handbrake but had no way of knowing the required or ideal settings. With Zoom proliferating, this would be a good thing to include in context help.
