i would love to have the ability to try all of these free LUT packs I can find online but I don't know if they're compatible with magix movie edit pro 2015 plus.
any info on this, or other quick ways to color grade would be helpful.
No. Magix Video Pro X had this added in recently. The feature is not available in MEP.
Assuming that you downloaded and installed all of the extras, you will probably have some Magix Movie Looks under the Effects tab, Presets, Movie looks. Take a look. There is not much there and they are about what you would get with a LUT.
With the Premium versions, you get some third party effects, so I have Magic Bullet Quick Looks (stripped down version that has no tools to modify colour, hue and saturation) and some New Blue filter effects (includes controls).
However, the best is Pixelan FilmTouch 2 Pro. You can download, install and try it for free. Other than hundreds of presets, you have many fantastic tools for modifying the looks as well as adding vignettes and masks.
I have tried some LUTs in VPX and was not impressed. If you look at FilmTouch 2 Pro and imagine each preset as a LUT, then you have hundreds. Then you would use the tools in the editor to make colour adjustments. The capability of using LUTs is nice to have, but not really very useful, in my opinion, compared to Pixelan, New Blue and even Magic Bullet plugins.
If you need a LUT due to the type of video taken with your camera, then that is a different problem.
i do have the extra free downloads and use the movie looks sometimes. most of the time, just filming with a flat profile, then adjusting the white balance and contrast, saturation, brightness, etc in MEP is good enough. i just wanted to know if there was an easy way to add more presets.
it looks like red giant has download links for Quick Looks Free and Colorista Free. i will see if i can download them and use with MEP.
so the $49 filmtouch 2.0 pro will work with MEP? i would consider that for the price. or even the $29 version would probably have enough for me to work with.
Make sure to download the Pixelan plugin for Magix and try it out. Everything works except that it leaves an X across the screen. When you purchase, the X disappears.
I have the whole suite of Pixelan tools. You can see my tutorials for a couple of them under Tutorials tab.
. . . . Do you have a sample 1D LUT that I can get? . . . .
I did have, however I must have deleted it and can I find it again - no such look the only thing I can remember was that it was a colour effect in .cube format for a monochrome / sepia effect.
I have found a different 1D LUT and it works fine.
