VPX is suppose to be a top editor, the professional editor. And as being such, it shouldn't matter what you toss at it, as long as the hardware you have is also up to the task.
It most probably is capable, Just not it seems with my present hardware. I am not complaining, just observing and testing. It's more of an inconvenience than a problem. I am quite happy to roll back as required, if required. I may yet find a way. I think of it as a challenge, not a chore.
But to have to roll back to VPX12 for any reason isn't good. I am guessing working with the same projects. I don't upgrade until there is a patch or three released for a product. And download a trial to see how it performs with some of my more difficult projects. Then I'll consider. It isn't the cost, but whether it is really worth it in editing. If anything, I want things to be smoother and better than before.
Agreed. but I don't go back to old projects except when testing for comparison. Then if it works I may go back to older material to start a new version of an old project. Hasn't happened yet though. I have enough new stuff to work through.
I shoot a lot of 10bit 422 and that leaves MEP off the table for me since the clips will show up in the Import all nice, but that's about as far as it goes in MEP2022. It would have been nice if it said file format not supported when trying to import. VPX12 has no problems.
One of the differing factors to separate one product from another I'm afraid. As 10 bit becomes more common I'm sure it will trickle it's way down as tech tends to do. I'm not even sure,population wise how many have an DDR capable screen, (Including phones) but I'm sure it is in the low percentage figure.

There is also Google Earth Studio in which you can do a fly-in, fly-around, fly-out. I haven't used it much.

@CubeAce I have some complex multitrack projects that I am familiar with and know how the software performed when editing. If the "new" software doesn't handle it as well as the "older" software, I'll wait for patches. There is nothing more frustrating to me than problems I experience with the new software that I didn't with the older version.
I'm sure that 10bit will be supported down the road in MEP. Other "consumer" editors I have will work with that footage. To remain competitive, MEP will have to. I understand the differing factors between MEP and VPX, but this is one point that it shouldn't have one. There are far more greater differences than just 10bit video. People will shoot HDR because it's there on their device. Most as you said don't have the HDR monitor, but the "perceived" mindset that it is "better" is what prevails.

I have a copy of VPX 12 on a separate drive. I could try activating that and find out. Or I could swap my C: drive out for my backup copy that has not been updated yet. I don't know if just activating either would cause a problem.
I like psd files as they are easy to edit both backwards and forwards until I get the look I want. MEP 2022 still handles them from my CS3. I can just save the file and it opens within MEP as new.
I know parts of Tunisia better than what is north past Watford Gap, so no, I never knew that.😄

I don't think patches will fix this, this time around.The way the program handles various files types seems to have fundamentally changed. On my system for instance cross-fades are now purely done by the CPU. That may differ on another system. I don't know. Why does trying to use Microsoft WARP end in my computer completely freezing? That choice either needs taking away or fixing.

@CubeAce for me, it has always been troublesome when a new version has something broken that worked in the old version. I know a lot of programming goes into updates. One line of code can break something, and in spite of all the beta testing, it still may make it through. But I am sure you have made it aware to those that need to know. 🙁

It seems something I may or may not have done has allowed VPX 14 to use PSD files again.
Out of pure interest, do you see Microsoft WARP as a drop-down option in the program device settings?
If not, has anything replaced it?
If you do see it, does it work or crash your program? I know if you have a system that is working there is little justification to trying to use it as it is barely faster than to choose using the CPU for anything.
If it crashes it should be instantaneous so you should only need to load a clip or two.

Warp (processing) froze my VPX14 instantly.
EDIT: I waited a few minutes for it to clear from the Task Manager. When it didn't, I restarted. The wheel is turning, turning, turning......
Warp is definitely not to be tried. Ray, raise a ticket with Magix. This is not good.

Thanks for that. That was what I was expecting. I think that choice needs removing.
For you it just froze the program, Thankfully 🤞. For me it freezes my complete computer to the extent I can't shut it down except by physically turning it off with the power button. It all died upon selection. No corruption of the project loaded and no error report to file back to Magix on reloading. No Windows safe mode on reloading. The device options selection box I tried within the program also selected CPU after the reboot and not the prior configuration.
Thank you for doing that for me. It will help me compile a ticket with a long list of questions although I've not finished my bug? / problem? collection yet.

Apparently it is also possible to use with AMD processors so not limited to Intel.
According to the info it should work in with Direct X12 but it does need multiple CPU cores which is where the problem may be arising. You can find more information here.

See this Microsoft article on WARP - it has been around a long time.
I think it is an option, in the Infusion 3 based editors, as a means of taking advantage of older graphics hardware that does not support DirectX 12 or Hardware Acceleration.
If I am correct, then this option should not be used when a suitable graphics card/iGPU is installed.

Agreed, but is has never in past versions of the program crashed the program or frozen my computer. The article suggests it should be safe to use regardless of other hardware on the system and Direct X 12 compatible if the correct version is installed.
This is new behaviour.
