For these 2 requirements you need to use different effects:-

• Thermal image - use the Substitution slider to achieve the false colours
   
• Infra red image - this is the difficult one without using 3rd party plugins. This is a real IR image
  
  
  
  Below is a quick example using the effects after applying the Inverse effect and requires the NewBlue Colorfast 2 plugin which you may have:

  Note:  depending on your image you may also need to adjust the Brightness, Increase it to darken the image.
