importing Gopro GPS data directly and simply

BMD wrote on 6/26/2018, 5:11 AM

Hi All,

Whats the simplest way to bring GPS data (gauges) recorded on Gopro into videos made with Movie Edit Pro 2018+. Can this be done directly in Movie Edit?, as I would love to avoid going down the path of "save in Quik, import into another program, save under this title, re-import" etc etc.

Thanks

Hi,

Can't be done. MEP has no way to process the raw gps data from a GoPro and it has no guages to be able to use the data. GoPro itself records gps data but has no tools to display this information.

The only way that I have found is to use Quik or RaceRender. Quik creates a csv file with the data that can be used with other gps/mapping programs, although I have not tried processing this in something like GPS Utility. There is RaceRender, in which you can export the csv information to a gps file and then use that in MEP's Travel Route Animation (TRA), with Google Earth Pro or in Vasco da Gama. However, for more than 3 minutes of video, you have to pay for the program.

There is a trick in Quik that you can use. Import the file, set up the guages, then select the green screen overlay. Export to the gauges on green screen to mp4, import into MEP along with the original video clip, use Chromakey green on the gauges file. You can now edit the two separately, like turn off the guages when you don't want them.
