I'm trying to export my movie and save it to my computer so can burn it to a DVD but either the program crashes or I keep getting error messages!

clarey995 wrote on 12/2/2012, 6:49 PM

I already have the movie edited and completed and am trying to burn it to a DVD that will play in somthing other than the MAGIX program, but when I go to export it either the program crashes or i get a message stating "The export was not successful. Please try again with another export format and check to make sure enough hard drive space is available". This message appears when I don't have anything selected in the timeline, just in the folder/import section. When in the timeline, the program just freezes and is unresponsive

Based on advice from the help menu I am trying to export it using the following:

Output as video file

Quality:  HD Quality 1                 Format: M-Peg 2

I will admit I am not the most technically savvy people I am just trying to make a basic DVD! Please please please is anyone able to help me, I urgently need to get this DVD burned as a christmas present!

Thank you :)

Hi,

I'm sure we might be able to help you get this burned quickly. But you can help us by providing more detail, not least the program version you're using. See this link:

Hello Clarey,
Well I am also not that tech savvy. But if you have this problem, try to the do the following tips. Perhaps they will work.

• Re-name the project.
• When you are exporting this project as a file, give it a some new and different name. For example, if you are naming your export file as Christmas, now change the name as Gift. A totally different name for this exported file.
• Try the modes DVD and WMV instead of  HD Quality 1 and M-Peg 2 as the output video.

Hope these works.
All the best.

Thanks guys

nirvanray - I have  tried everything you have suggested numerous times and every time I go to export all the program does is freeze!

Terry - I am using Movie Edit Pro MX and running the program on a windows 7 laptop. It is a pretty new laptop and barely used any of the space so I know that is not the problems.

Any suggestions???

nirvanray wrote on 12/4/2012, 3:05 AM

Check the project that you are exporting. Many times the project has flaws. I mean check the imported videos or music in ur lappy. Are they working perfectly. If they do not work nicely on ur lappy, then there is a problem. Also check if these imported videos are at desktop. Many times it happened with me the same and they I realised that these videos I have actually deleted and are place at the Recycle Bin.Then I again restore the file back from the bin to the destiation.

Try this.

Yes, but they're all in that link I gave you. Have you studied it?

In particular we need detailed information about exactly what steps you've taken and at what stage you get what error. Your question is also rather ambiguous. You seem to be getting this problem when using File > Export movie, yet you also say you are "...trying to burn it to a DVD...". Have you actually tried to do the latter, in Burn mode, (after reading Help or the PDF Manual if necessary)?

Also, what is the extent of this issue? Is it only this (important) project that gives rise to the problem? Or does it happen with any project? For example, with a single image on the timeline? Or with an arbitrary section of your project?

And what is your skill level? Have you successfully finished other projects? Exported them? (To what format?) Made a DVD disc from them?

In summary, the devil is in the details. You haven't provided any yet.

I need to be able to export my movie and save it as a file that will play on a dvd player as the mvp format will not work, then I can burn it to the dvd. The burning part I have no problems with, I have done that numerous times. I have made numerous videos with this program and never before have had a problem with exporting it. This is a larger file than I have done before though (a full wedding day!!!) so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Terry - I have spent hours going through the forums, help section and pdf manual. As far as I can see I have done everything as advised and followed any suggestions given. I can't find anything as a solution to my problem.

Nirvanray - i had already checked that and everything is still in place. I am using music from itunes though, could that be a problem?

I have managed to get it to a point where the dvd will save but will stop at 1:23:00 then I get the message "The export was not successful. Please try again with another export format and check to make sure enough hard drive space is available" again. There is plenty of space available.I have attempted numerous format combinations and all have the same response.

Any workaround ideas? I didn't know if there might be a way to make the file smaller without cutting anything from the movie and taking away the quality.

Thanks

You want to play your movie on a DVD player? So why don't you just burn it to a DVD and do so?

Maybe someone else can chip in, as I just don't follow you. And so far you've not shown us any screenshots as that link suggests for situations like this.

I burned the movie directly to a DVD and it would not play on the DVD player. When I put it into my husbands computer it would not play again as it said it cannot read an MVP file. Therefore, I am trying to save the movie on my laptop as a media file that will play in a DVD player and outside of this program before I burn it to DVD. If you have a way of me burning the DVD to play on all outlets please let me know but through the help menu and forums I couldn't find the answer I needed.

I burned the movie directly to a DVD and it would not play on the DVD player.

When burning the movie in MEP (under the Burn tab) did it all proceed successfully, like the numerous others you have made? No error messages?

Have you tried playing the DVD folder it created before it burnt the disc? This will be in the location specified in Program Settings > Folder > Disc images. From what you say, it shouldn't play from there either, but let's rule it out.

When I put it into my husbands computer it would not play again as it said it cannot read an MVP file.

This reference (and your earlier ones) to MVP files confuses me entirely. I appreciate you've said that you're not technically all that experienced. But you also said you "have made numerous videos with this program..." so I assume you know that an MVP file is the project file, and not to be 'played' externally.

Therefore, I am trying to save the movie on my laptop as a media file that will play in a DVD player

My own DVD player is a bit long in the tooth, but its only input is a disc. Containing a DVD of SD type. How do you get yours to play other files?

and outside of this program before I burn it to DVD. If you have a way of me burning the DVD to play on all outlets

What other outlets do you mean?

If the DVD structure is corrupted, or it's burned on a faulty or intolerant disc medium, then it's not going to play, full stop. That test I suggested earlier (playing it from your HD) should eliminate that issue.

You still haven't answered several of the specific questions I asked earlier.

This is hard work!

So we are talking just about burning the DVD now? Not doing an 'export' as you said earlier? I'll assume so anyway.

Q1: Are you sure you've successfully burned DVDs with this computer and this version of MEP before? Because your log is reporting that your DVD drive is not supported by Magix.

12/6/2012 11:30:23 PM.008:   !!! DBK error in CBurnDevSupport::InvalidateDiscInfo(): 16 - burn support - invalid device !!!

Q2: Did you follow up my earlier question asking if this problem occurred exclusively with this project?

Q3: Did you try my suggestion to keep everything else the same except start a new project with just a single JPG on the timeline?

Q4: Did you see my question about MVP files, which you haven't answered?

Q5: Did you try my suggestion to see if the DVD will play from the DVD folders created on your HD? If it does then it's almost certain that the problem is as described in Q1 above. So then make sure you have the latest burn routines, which you can download from http://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download/tools

Or you can use another burning program to burn those folders to disc, such as ImgBurn (which I always use anyway, instead of the Magix tool.)

Come back when you've tried all that and have answers to the remaining questions. Or of  course, to report success!

P.S: That's the most uninformative screenshot I've ever seen! Next time capture the whole screen or window, so that we can see what's going on.

terry, thankyou for your patience.

i now have it to a point where my dvd is complete and ready to burn.

I remembered i had to get a new hard drive for my laptop as the previous one was faulty and havent done a dvd since so downloading the burn routines solved that problem. i burned one of my previously completed movies and it all worked fine.

now i only have a small problem, when i go to burn it is about 300 mb too big to fit on one disc. is there any way to compress the movie so that it doesnt take up as much room without deleting any footage? i have cut all that i can and need to get creative. I do have a menu screen and sub menu screen.

I have saved it as a different file name, closed and re opened the program and attempted to burn with the same result. I have deleted all the blank space at the end and cut everything possible. i have also lowered the bit and it is still too large.

any suggestions?

In Burn mode, in the Burn dialog, click Encoder settings then the Adapt bit rate button I've shown and follow the instructions.

This is in the Help and the PDF Manual. And you could have found it using the Search button to the right with a target of fitting or fit disc, etc. All that was in the link I gave you 5 days ago.

Please let us know when you've succeeded.

They, as stated before I did that and looked through the help menus and can't find a way to make it smaller. The bit rate setting is at it's lowest and it is still 300mb over. Didn't know if there was another option.

In your last post you said "is there any way to compress the movie so that it doesn't take up as much room without deleting any footage?", yet I now gather you had already used the Adapt bit rate tool to do so? And it's still the same size (300 MB too large for a standard 4.7 GB disc)?

What duration is the movie on the timeline? If it's really that long, outside the Adapt tool's scope, then I'm afraid you're going to have to trim some footage.

You might also show us a screenshot of your burn settings (like mine) just in case we can spot something else wrong.

Well, that's 8 days since my last reply... It would be nice to get some feedback.
