I'm recording vocals while a karaoke track is playing.  There seems to be latency in the recording of the mic even thought I set the audio output to ASIO Magix Low Latency 2011. Is there a way where I can have only the karaoke (music) playing in the singers headphones and not the sound from the mic?

I'm using MMM MX on WIndows 7

recording from a USB condenser mic

track 1 Karaoke

track 2 vocals

Hi

Depends on the sound card you have - it may have an option not to pass the microphone through to the speakers.  Dig around in the settings for the sound card.

I would try a standard mike plugged into your sound card to remove the majority of the latency which I think is coming from the USB device and inteface.

Hi,

As said by johnebaker, depends on your sound card. But you can check also in the section 3 of the recording submenu if first option "listening during recording" (translation of French version)  is disabled. If it is enable, MMM plays the track after having record your voice (monitoring) with a small lag due to record+play.

To avoid to have the sound of the mic in your headphones you have to :

1 : disable the previous option

2 :  check at your sound card interface menu (driver) what you listen : generaly there is a mixer of the different outputs. If your sound card is able to redirect directly the sound of your mic to the headphones by bypassing Windows 7 and MMM  you avoid latency, but as said with an USB mic you could have perhaps a small latency.
