the upgrade to the 2022 version , if i buy the upgrade i believe it id $59. Is that a 1 time purchase or does that expire in a year and i have to renew the license subscription every year
Hi William and welcome to the user to user forums.
You may get offered Movie Studio 2022 instead of Movie Edit Pro 2022. It is just a name change and the same program. As long as you don't see the words 'Subscription' or '365' in the description then all should be fine.
It means you will get all the current updates of the current version during the 12 months within the purchase date. You may even be able to upload the new version if it comes out within the 12 months but later after the 12 months is up, if you need to load the program on a new computer or reload it on to your current computer then the version will revert to the one you bought including all the patches for that program. Not the newer version you may have previously been able to use. You are entitled to the version you bought until such times that either it is unavailable to download or no longer works due to operating system changes as shown in the end user licence agreement found on the main Magix website.
Do however make sure that your system will cope with the new program. The minimum specs quoted will only ensure the program itself will work if the project workload is not too great. It does not mean it will work under heavier workloads such as editing multiple tracks with or without effects or higher resolution video content.
Ideally you need to exceed all minimum requirements for a smoother editing experience and to ensure that all offered third party plugins work as some of them offered recently need more computing power than the program itself.
If you have any doubts or further questions please reply back to this topic stating your complete system build and current operating system and maybe someone here can advise further.
Ray.

@Bill-the-repair-guy Download the trial first as Move Studio 16 is a different program to Movie Studio 2022, if you want to keep the program looking like Move Studio 16 you're better upgrading to Vegas Edit or Pro.
As @CubeAce, and @Former user have suggested Movie Studio 2022 has a higher specification for the computer requirement.
Before going down a potential 'rabbit hole', what is you computer specification, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.
I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.
Additionally:
are the graphics card drivers up to date?
what is the resolution and format of the source videos you are working with?
cube, so if I buy the upgrade MS 2022. It is perpetual , i pay once and is not a subscription? and i get free updates for 1 year including if a new version comes out within the 1 year period. If I re-install after the 1 year period or install on a second computer after the 1 year i only have the version i purchased..specs are now in my sig
Gid , what trial should i down load? John wrote below..... a bit confused. what are all the different versions?
You may get offered Movie Studio 2022 instead of Movie Edit Pro 2022.
That is correct. Perpetual licence if you chose to buy that version, will not come with added monthly freebies from the Magix store as that is for the subscription version only but the perpetual licence version is normally valid until the operating system it is designed for stops being supported. Best to read the End user licence agreements.
There will only be one version to download as it the same program with different licences available at point of purchase. You may find some limitations in the trail version. The trial version will not work with HEVC (H265) files. Separate licences will have to be purchased after purchase of the program to facilitate that.
Does your i5 11th gen processor have six cores and an HD 750 IGPU? There are a lot of variants of that processor.
Without knowing the video file types, resolutions and frame rates you work with it will be hard to know how well the program will run for you. If you work with files of more than HD resolution then I would suggest at least another 8GB of ram. Some third party effects may also not work well with just 8GB of ram. A lot will depend on your editing requirements.

@Bill-the-repair-guy Yes if you buy the program (Upgrade) it's is perpetual, you get updates for 1 yr & after that yr the program continues to work. you have it for life but no more updates unless you upgrade again, you can have as many versions as you want, if you keep upgrading each yr you could have MS 2022, 2023, 2024 or whatever they name the next versions, when upgrading just make sure you don't agree to a subscription,
Sorry but when you upgrade to a new version of the product now you no longer have access to the older version. People have complained about this in the past when they have upgraded and found their new version won't play well on their machine. They have had to write to Magix to get their old version back.
I don't think that will effect the 2016 version that @Bill-the-repair-guy has as it was a different system in place back then but newer versions are replaced in an account when upgrading. If you buy a new version outright, then you get both versions showing in your Magix account as I showed in an inquiry earlier this year.
John CB says that doesn't happen with a cross grade because it is a different program. So going from MEP to VPX means you get to keep your last copy of MEP as well. That I don't actually know about as I didn't get my copy of VPX that way so I can't confirm that.

@CubeAce 👍 right, I upgrade & must have had only ever one on my pc, 👍 I thought you could download previous versions tho, ... this is a new pc so can't remember how it was, when this one has upgraded it does replace the previous/existing, i struggle to remember what happened yesterday 🙃😂🤦♂️
Just had a look at My Products on the Magix site MEP, MEP Plus, then MEP Premium, but not the upgrades in between, I've got a couple of discs kicking around somewhere, think they were the first versions i got,.
You indicated that you have Movie Studio 16, which I take to mean Vegas Movie Studio 16, not Movie Edit Pro. Is this correct?
If so, then remember that Vegas Movie Studio and Magix Movie Studio are very different products. As has been suggested, try out the program first.
As for which flavour of Movie Studio, look at the comparison table. This link is for the UK site; make sure to use the country/region for you - Europe, USA, Canada, etc. to get the correct pricing. Forget the basic Movie Studio; too many essential features missing.
Presently, the difference in Upgrade price between Movie Studio Platinum and Suite is minimal, so I would suggest getting Suite. When you buy, make sure to select Upgrade, not the subscription.
The Update Service that @CubeAce has alluded to has been dropped. It is unlikely that you will get the next version. You will get updates, but not upgrades, unless Magix is feeling generous.
Movie Edit Pro/Movie Studio do not have the same executable as Video Pro X (videodeluxe.exe and video_pro_x.exe). Both can reside on your computer without problems and they are in different folder structures. Upgrades to a new version use the same executable name and the previous version gets replaced.
As well, each one has its own location for Video Content. The same location is used when upgrading the program. So, VPX video content will always be under:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Video Pro X
(unless changed by the user). MEP/MS will be under its own folder structure. Note that video content is only changed if a new version recognizes that there is new or changed content, otherwise there is not video content to download and install (by module).
The last version that did not fall under this scheme was MEP 2016, which I still have loaded on my old computer. I also had a much more recent version with no interference between the two.
I am being offered Movie Studio 2022 , i did a screen shot, seems like there is no way to import into the forum post. CubeAce wrote

CubeAce it's a 11th gen that the mainboard uses a graphics processor on the processor OR the onboard graphics uses the processor in someway......does that sound right, answer the question?
the wording does not seem like it is an upgrade, but a whole new app...so i would have both. on my new PC they are also offering Pro Dad software too along with the deal. says it's a $998 deal for all software for $59 , no one discounts that much 🙄 not saying its not good software, just a little unbelievable price cut.
You indicated that you have Movie Studio 16, which I take to mean Vegas Movie Studio 16, not Movie Edit Pro. Is this correct?
Yes an appropriate onboard graphic chip can be used but often an additional graphics card with a good amount of vram is very beneficial.
Yes Magix Movie Studio is a totally different program to its Vegas based predecessor. In the user community we feel it should never have been advertised as an upgrade as the term is misleading. The problem is the other offer at the time would have been to upgrade to Vegas Edit Pro which would have been more like the program you are used to and should be more compatible with your older Vegas projects but that is never a 100% guarantee as some plugins can either be redundant or replaced by newer versions.
The third party plugin offer is genuine. Other companies have done similar deals in the past. You just have to visit the correct website at the right time to catch them.
As has been indicated, Magix Movie Studio (MMS) is not at all the same programs as Vegas Movie Studio (VMS). I suggest that you download the trial of Magix Movie Studio Platinum or Suite (same program) and try it out.
MMS is a renamed Movie Edit Pro (MEP) with the ability to import .vf files, but only the timeline without any effects. Any VMS projects that already have effects should be completed in VMS.
If you want content and templates befitting a consumer-oriented program, MMS will give you a lot, VMS gave you very little, almost none. However, you won't see this in the trial version, so you'll have to look at the details.
If you don't want or need this content and templates along with many other things, but want to be able to edit the same way, then you should look at Vegas Pro.
Here is a list that I did on another thread and it is missing a bit. VPX = Magix Video Pro X the more advanced video editor.
Other features of VPX/MEP (now MMS), some of which are not all usually available in competing products (like Vegas MS and Vegas Pro):
Multiple timelines (Movies);
Nesting (VPX only) by using a Movie as a clip in another Movie;
Travel Maps (Travel Route Animation);
SoundTrack Maker with different styles and moods;
Slideshow Maker with music, with objects cut to the beat, if the beat is available. Music styles come with the program and you can select your own music;
BPM wizard and align snap markers with transients;
Tracks (they all have tracks but VPX/MEP is simpler) –There are no Audio tracks, Video Tracks or Composite tracks, just tracks already there on the timeline screen – a track is a track and you can put whatever you want on it. Composite tracks are not required as composites are made of objects on the timeline with effects. No need to have separate tracks just to make composites each and every time.
Movie Templates – VPX/MEP come with many short movie templates that you can use to quickly create videos from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Music comes with each template and everything is cut to the beat.
3D title templates – MEP uses the built-in version of Xara 3D Maker for 3D static and animated titles. If you also get 3D Maker 7, then it opens and you use the interface to completely redesign the title. With VPX, the full 3D Maker 7 is available and opens.
Templates – there are many, including templates for Titles, Transitions, Movie & Editing, Intros/Outros, Themepacks, Movie Looks, Collages, Design Elements and Image Objects. Magix is continually adding new content available for purchase in the Store;
So, Store is not a feature, but it’s great if you want easy access to new content, including more titles, transitions, collages, in particular audio files for songs and sound effects, and third party plugins. Under the Audio tab are purchased audio files, including some that come free.
MMS 2023 should come out soon, and I suggest waiting until after it has been released if you decide to go this route.
