Huge file size for captured movie from miniDV

FabianG wrote on 1/23/2012, 9:23 PM

I captured 3 hours of video from a miniDV camera. The capture process was smooth, but the resulting AVI file is 50 Gigabytes ! I succeeded in doing some editing, but after I closed MAGIX and then opened again the same project, the program behaviour is strange and unstable.

My question: why is the captured file so big? The original video quality is in fact very low; the miniDV is in fact a recording of a VHS tape connected to the miniDV camera.

Thank you.

Hi

Which settings did you use for the recording format?

I used PAL 4:3 (720x576; 25fps) since the original video was recorded in PAL system.

I get about 250MB per minute, and the output quality is poor. Is that normal?

Thanks.
