How To Stop Music Maker Screen Popups/Ads

kellycraven wrote on 7/11/2018, 7:05 AM

How do I remove onscreen, bottom right, popups from Magix, Music Maker? These come up after every reboot - after every Windows Update.

I get popups for "Your Music Maker Gift" even though I do not have Music Maker installed anymore. I did have Music Maker installed, but found that I didn't use it and didn't need it. (I do all my soundtracks from the ground up, playing all instruments myself. I have no beef with MM. It seems great for those that need it.)

Why am I getting popup ads, coupon offers, for an app that is no longer installed? Is there a registry key that needs to be removed? Should not this have been removed when MM was uninstalled?

I do have Vegas Pro 15 and DVD Architect installed, and use them regularly.

I am on an HP Laptop running Windows 10.

Thanks.

look in window's TaskManager --> Startup Tab for anything .

or ,

look thru your C drive , in 4 folders : Program Files , Program Files(x86) , ProgramData , Users , and into any sub folders of the above , looking for "Magix" ,..."Music Maker" , and manually delete only the remnants of these Music Maker folders , being careful NOT to touch your Magix Vegas folders .

Hi there,

You'd need to uninstall the MAGIX tool "Connect" from your system in order to get rid of those notifications. This wouldn't have any negative effect on the actual MAGIX programs. Please also see an official statement on "Connect" here:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/what-is-magix-connect--108737/?page=1#ca670846

I hope this info helps!

It appears that this is indeed the actions of Connect.

I didn't see any "Music Maker" leftovers that could did it, nothing in Startup at all, but Connect was there in the Magix folder. Wasn't too sure about blindly uninstalling that since there was no easy way to know if doing that would hork the Vegas install.

Thanks for the info folks.

I have uninstalled Connect and will be keeping an eye open for its reappearance, which I assume WILL happen since we aren't given the option to not install it. Not terribly happy with companies that install adware without asking. I assume it will reappear with most Vegas updates....UGH.

Corel does this kind of thing regularly, and I've had a terrible time getting rid of it. Theirs can't be uninstalled and requires special reg keys to disable it. It's built into their apps directly. They are on my crap-app list because of this kind of thing, even though there are a couple Corel apps I still use regularly (post disabling regkeys).

Simply put, I don't want things running on my machine that I don't want running. If you want to install and run, ask first and give me the option to opt out.

@kellycraven

Hi

If you use the main feature of Magix Connect, ie Cloud import or Wifi transfer, then see this solution for alternative options.

There is another method. It may be for older versions. Mine is 2016.

From the desktop use <control-alt-delete>, pick <Task Manager>, under the tab <Process> find (something like, I don't see it any more because I removed it) <Updater...>, right click <properties>. In this version it should say <QMxNetworkSync.exe>. Click <End Task>. Close the <Task Manager>.

Open <Windows Explorer>, got <C:\Program Files\Common Files\MAGIX Services\Update Notifier>, and delete <QMxNetworkSync.exe>, reboot the computer.

In my version, I get no more ads. When I run <MAGIX Movie Maker> so far it has not complained.

I hope not. Because if it does I will, as others have indicated on this Forum, Uninstall it. No flame war intended. Simple dissatisfaction with MAGIX.

Hope this helps a few of annoyed customers.

I had to uninstall the Update Notifier for these to stop popping up every day.

I had to do the three finger salute ctrl alt del then in task manager stop all update notifier before I could delete QMXnetworksync
