How to select part of a track for editing

mpwithell wrote on 9/25/2015, 12:10 PM

I've just 'upgraded' from the Audio Cleaning Lab 2005 version to 2016 because my old program, which did everything I needed, didn't like Windows 7 (I'd used it with XP until recently) and couldn't find the CD burning drive. I cannot work out how to do something which was so easy before: select part of a track to adjust volume or just to delete the selection. 'Help' doesn't. All I did before was make sure the scissors were active, then click at the end of where I wanted to cut, then at the beginning. This would then highlight the selected bit and I could edit it/delete it easily. Can some kind soul please explain how I perform this simple task?

Hi,

I don't have ACL2016, only AML2014 Premium. The scissor should still be there. Place the playback marker where you want to cut, click on the scissors (now beside the transport control buttons under the arranger) or press on T, or from the top menu, Edit, Split objects, to split. Then do the end, then click on the middle piece as before. Thus, there is really no change.

If you can't find it, post a screen shot so that we can see what you have.

Thanks very much. I worked it out in the end, but it is different in that in the old version you selected the scissors first, and they remained active, so you clicked and it split the track, and you simply clicked again to split it again, and you could do that as often as you liked before deselecting them, then using the select tool to click in each section and edit them all individually.

I nearly gave up on 2005, BTW, as Help seemed to consist of telling you something existed but not how to use it. I found out by chance how to do what I wanted, then absolutely loved the program. I hope I can grow into this one...
