How to replace one video clip with another cut to the same size

Hiya, I can't find an answer to this in Q&A or tutorials but apologies if this has already been asked.

I'm using magix movie edit plus and this is my issue.

At the end of most of my videos I have a short advert for other videos. This normally will have a couple of seconds of another video clip posted picture in picture. I might have 2 or so on the screen at once.
(sub question - I arranged this myself - Is there any template for this? Its kinda like a DVD menu but its in the timeline tagged on the end of a video)

Every couple of videos I will want to replace one of these clip with another - but when I select that clip then pull in another new one from the import box it pulls in the whole 15 minute video not just a couple of seconds. Additionally it doesnt keep the same effects or PiP that the first clip had. I've tried using single ripple, double ripple, overwrite and exchange. I need to to just put in a few seconds (same size as original) which I can then trim to the right section of video.

I know that I can I and O before importing but thats more time consuming and if I dont get the timing exactly right it can push or overwrite other tracks. Its almost like I just want to replace video source of an object in the track without changing anything else.

I hope my question and sub question are clear and thanks in advance for any help

Hi

You have two options to import the clip  - which you have already tried - which you use is entirely up to you however -

1.  Make sure if you import the clip on to a seperate track and then cut the section you need if you have not used the I/O option.

2.  Select the clip to be replaced.

3.  Right click the selected clip and select Video Effects, Copy video effects and click Continue.

4.  Select the replacement clip and right click it , select Video effects, Paste video effects

5.  Delete the clip to be replaced and move the new clip into position.
