How to render with custom frame rate

LoganTMT wrote on 10/17/2023, 12:42 AM

Hey Everyone,

So I'm trying to get my video to render at the source FPS of 59.67, but it comes out completely messed up and the video is like 1 frame every 5 seconds and it's driving me nuts. if I do the included 59.94 fps it's got some stuttering due to trying to fill the empty frames on it. Can someone please help me figure this out?

Thanks!

Hi.

Could you post the file's MediaInfo data please? It could be another reason other than frame rate causing the problem such as the GOP structure of the file. You can find the program to download here.

Well, there's certainly something crazy going on here (Magix MMS 2024). I set the movie settings frame rate to 59.67.and imported a 59.94 file.

I tried to export to MPEG 4 (H264)at 59.67 and it ended up being twice as long, timewise, but the audio ran at the correct speed.

When I exported at 59.94, the video and audio were in-sync and ran for the correct time.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi

. . . . I'm trying to get my video to render at the source FPS of 59.67 . . . .

59.67 fps is a very odd 'non standard' framerate and would suggest that the source video is actually Variable framerate (VFR).

Download and install MediaInfo, as suggested by @CubeAce, and analyse the source video clip - see this tutorial for how to get the required data.

If you see this line in the Video section of the analysis

Frame rate mode: Variable

Then that is the source of the problem - many video editors do not handle VFR video correctly, particulary when the framerate range difference is more than a few frames per second.

In the case of VFR video, conversion the video to Constant framerate (CFR) at 59.94 or 60 fps, using a converter such as Handbrake or Avidemux can help, however with some video, h.265/HEVC enoded in particular, this may not always work well idue to the higher compression of the video format.

@johnebaker

John, in my case, the VFR is 55.901 to 64.795, published and real frame rate 60.00. Changing the export rate to 59.67 should not cause such a huge error in run time.

Definite bug. On a 59.67 timeline, I just exported an 18" long CFR 25fps AVI to 59.67fps and the file length increased to 45 seconds in ultra-slow motion.

Change movie settings to 59.94 and export at 59.94: export works correctly.

The problem is the video stutters when running a faster framerate due to having to fill the frames not there and I can't change my phone camera frame rate as the 59.67 is the standard on it.

AAProds wrote on 10/17/2023, 9:13 AM

@LoganTMT

Actually, adding one frame over many seconds (59.67 to 59.94) shouldn't create the stuttering; I suspect it is Magix' handling of your unusual source file. Certainly, Magix it is melting down if exporting at 59.67.

I suspect that you'll have to do as suggested above: run your files through a converter such as Handbrake to get them to a standard framerate such as 59.94.

Is your phone a mainstream phone? If so, put in a bug report to Magix over it's inability to properly export 59.67 files. Of course, that may be outside the design parameters of the program (as pointed out, 59.67 is oddball).

A Mediainfo readout would be helpful and also, what exact version of Movie Edit Pro or Movie Studio are you using?

Lastly, it would be helpful if you could upload a file to Google Drive, Drobox or similar for us to analyse.
