How to record LPs with a wide Db range when music has loud and soft passages?

Apart from continually monitoring and adjusting volume level during recording, how can I increase the Db range which gets recorded?

I'm using Audio Cleaning Lab 17 DeLuxe to record classical music from a vinyl LP which has both very soft and very loud passages of music.

If I reduce volume level down, the soft passages are not recorded. They can't be heard and appear as "silence" in the audio waveform.

If I raise volume level to record soft passages, the loud passages are heavily clipped, which sound awful on playback.

I use Windows 7 with a Creative sound card SB X-Fi Titanium.

Any ideas, please...
