On the export page, check the box to see all presets and then open the pop-down list.

Glad you found it.

You are one of the few that I have seen trying to use 4K. I took a look and almost bought a GoPro camera with 4K, but realized that I'm not even burning to BD except for myself. My friends and relatives who have to suffer my videos only have DVD's. Even my videos that I post or put on my online album are not HD. I also looked at this and realized that the storage requirements would be extreme and I would also need a new 4K Blu-Ray player and 4K TV, not to mention new cameras.

Since you are trying this out, I would be interested in hearing your comments on using 4K.

Regards,

I would like to thank you for the link to L.Jordan's presentation, really appreciated, a 45minutes well spent watching it, many thanks.

As for my interest; I am a kitesurfing videos hobbyist, I also have a youtube 3D videos channel about the Isle of Wight so I have come up against various limitations which for example stop me from uploading 3D videos longer than 15 minutes as the processing time of anything longer can go into more than 6 hours then you have the uploading time on top which for a hobbyist is not worth it. (I will mention that I do have 3D TV and 3d blueray player as well as a high spec pc with a 3D monitor and graphic card that can handle 3d- so when I watch 3d videos from YouTube I use interlaced option rather than cyan/magenta- and I must say I love Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium specially now I have upgraded to 2016 version) I needed a water proof 3d cam but they're too bulky and expensive to take while kitesurfing so I devised my own-see attached- and this is another aspect I love about Magix Movie Edit Pro is that the resulting two files from the left eye and the right eye cameras can be levelled out (for horizon tilt) synchronised (to match timing almost down to a frame) and then blended into a 3d video.

I was attracted to 4k by the 4k videos I've seen on YouTube (my favourite way to share my videos) which look much crisper and sharper than 1080 even though my laptop/monitor and tv are not 4k ready.

I was also attracted by the fact that tha 4k action cam I purchased can shoot 1080 @ 60fps which is good for a sport like kitesurfing.

Since you showed me how to export 4k I have done short test videos and they do look better than my other 1080 action camera output, most probably I will be making more use of the 60fps @1080 feature than the 4k.

Larry Jordan is usually quite interesting.

Thanks for the details. I never thought to go looking for 3D videos in Youtube. I, too, have a Samsung HD 3D TV and Samsung 3D Blu-Ray with the fancy powered glasses. Getting tired of watching Shrek in 3D, need some new stuff. I'll have to plug in the ethernet cable to the TV.

I like your helmet invention. I toyed with the idea of doing 3D, but the audience would be limited to myself and my wife. Still......

I just tried the 3D demo, exported to MP4, anaglyph, put it on a memory stick, into the TV and changed the settings to 2D->3D, turned on the glasses, but did not see 3D, only the doubled image. I change the 25fps to 29.97 in the export as I'm in NTSC land.

What is the trick to get this to work?

I presume that I need a 3D monitor for my computer to be able to work in 3D. Is this correct? And I just bought a 25in IPS HP monitor, not thinking about 3D.

Hi John CB

. . . . . exported to MP4, anaglyph, put it on a memory stick, into the TV and changed the settings to 2D->3D, turned on the glasses, but did not see 3D, only the doubled image. . . . .

Are your 3D glasses active shutter or polarisation?

If so then they will not work with Anaglyph video which is exported as a double image video, with each image tinted for the Red/Cyan glasses,  with the seperation between the two controlling the 3D depth.

For active shutter or polarisation glasses you need to export 3D video as either Side by Side or Top/bottom, using my TV's descriptions for this to avoid the inuendo from the actual description in MEP   ,  depending on what your 3D TV can handle.

For my Sony TV I export as Side by side , left first, complete width and upped the framerate to 100fps to avoid flicker and  set the video resolution to 3840 * 1080.

With the resulting MP4 I also have to manually set the TV to the correct format for the video being played - it then displays the 3D correctly using the shutter glasses.

When I was looking for a new video camera last year I wanted to get a 3D model, however I found 2 issues

  1. 3D video cameras appeared to be falling out of favour

  2. with a subject more than a few metres away the 3D was reduced significantly and non existent at arounf 10 metres.

OT - I am now looking at a 4K camera, however the downside for me with all the newest cameras is that they record to memory cards.  With my current Sony I can record up to 270 hrs of full HD video before having to delte video or reformat the internal hard drive.  Cannot see that happening with memory cards.

On my pc I have a fairly low end Invidea Quadro 400 handling the 3d and the monitor is LG 3d cinema so watching on my laptop I only need to use the polaroid "passive" glasses the type you get given before entering to watch a 3d movie in a local cinema (so I have collected a few :).

The 3DTV however requires the fancy powered scanning glasses you mentioned. Now You Tube over the years have changed the options interface quite a few times the latest I've noticed was within the last few weeks so now when you arrive at a 3D video on YouTube you can view it straight away with cyan magenta glasses (which is good for mobiles and pads) but no other options to choose from are immediately available. Whereas just a few weeks ago you would arrive at a split screen (and no other options to choose from are immediately available) which was great to watch on 3DTV as all you needed was to plug hdmi into TV-select hdmi input on TV and then you'll see the vertically split screen at that stage you just push the 3D button on the remote control and put on the fancy glasses and the TV does the rest. Even before that (roughly 2 years ago) you'd arrive at a 3d videos URL and below you'd see a "cog" looking icon within which lies the "options" for all other 3D viewing modes.

Here's how to get the full 3D viewing options on (and I have had to paste this under all my 3d videos on YouTube as they don't make it clear) for example when you go to this URL the cog only offers anaglyph -cyan magenta- or 2D

In order to see the other options such as split screen for 3DTV or interlaced for passive glasses such as my pc monitor then you have to copy what comes after the  equal sign "="  in this case you'd copy  "5r3CBYwsYWw"

Then paste it after the following:

http://www.youtube.com/v/

resulting in the following URL:

Now when you go to this URL (which is exactly the same video) you can explore far more options such as swapping left and right eye or watching interlaced etc

Not really sure why YouTube stopped these options being immediately available as its annoying for people with 3D video channels having to explain under every video how to access more 3D viewing options!!! and not many f them know about this URL workaround if they haven't visited YouTube's forums.

Sorry this is a bit lengthy hope it helps explain how I watch in 3D on PC monitor with passive glasses selecting "interleaved" and for active/powered glasses to watch on 3DTV I select "Side by side" and hit the 3D button on the remote control.

Hi

At the moment 3D videos must be played in Flash player in order for the 3D settings to appear -  the /v/ option is supposed force the use of Flash player.

YT has been moving away from using Flash player, and will eventually drop it, in favour of HTML 5 video.

This means that video playback is dependent on the browsers built in media player to display the video and AFAICS YT have not yet included the 3D setting options for these players.

Many thanks John Baker for your reply That explains things Re Flash

I still wonder why they recently changed from displaying vertical split screen -side by side- (which doesn't require flash and was great to put on 3D TV and press 3D button) to cyan magenta without a side by side option!

I hope they do offer these options in HTML5 otherwise I can't see where 3d on YouTube is heading when Flash goes

Thank you gentlemen,

I managed to export the 3D demo program and get it to work on my Samsung. The trick was side-by-side half width. Full width elongated everything. Top/bottom half height also worked. I'll have to plug in the cable and try out some internet 3D's tonight.

@ashaath,

Watched some of your videos in 3D this evening. My wife said "Extraordinaire!" She wants my videos in 3D. The kitesurfing was spectacular! I was surprised as the videos were all showing up side by side, ready to go. Someone should have a talk with Magix because their 3D demo is really not very good. Yours come out perfect.

Thanks for the link. Now we have things to watch in 3D.
