How to disable pop up advertisements for magix?

Comments

AdV wrote on 3/16/2019, 8:31 AM

I see connect as the exe file but in start menu and program and features it is listed as magix connect.
However, in Task Scheduler the connect program is also listed to run. I removed the program itself and all
other entries I could find.

With Magix you do have the option of disabling the advertising or uninstalling the Connect software if you do not use Cloud or WiFi transfers.

It is now becoming standard practice for software companies to include advertising in their products - I have 3 other very well known programs from 3 different software companies which also have in app advertising, for 2 of them it is not possible to turn it off and the 3 only by editing the registry.

It might be standard but not normal practice. It is aggressive and intrusive. Besides that, I do not get PAID software so I can get advertisement. And as a customer I say NO. Not this way. If I could not disable the advertisement on paid software would stop using it and get an alternative. I have enough software, non of them advertising in any way.

Add my name to those that object to this practice. As a paying customer, it is not normal or acceptable.

I was just using Affinity Photo and noticed that when I start the application, a dialog box pops up with several advertisements. The key difference here is:

  • It only happens when I start the application
  • There is a very clear option to stop it appearing in future

I would not object if Magix adopted this approach.

This is not becoming standard practice. It's being done by a small handful of companies and it's considered shady and invasive by users and devalues your company and your software. No respectful software company should condone to these practices.

I have Magix Music Maker version 27.0.3.33 and there is no network sync. There is no longer any Magix Connect as I uninstalled it but these ads persist! Why in the world Magix felt this was a good idea is beyond any logical common sense or respect for your customers! How do I get this off my brand new system short of dumping everything only to have to spend hours or days reinstalling and downloading everything all over again?

Hi

Another user has reported a similar issue, Magix Connect may now be called Magix Updater, however there should still be an icon for it in the System tray.

If there is open it, open the Info channels option, then turn off the notifications for all programs listed.

So not sure if this is still relevant in the 2020 update but there is a new popup that is beyond annoying and there is no program called Connect or Sync, I had to uninstall the PC updater in order to get it to stop and I havent tried Music Maker since to see if it effected it or not.

Honestly, when you have an ad popup that bypasses the Microsoft turn off notifications option then it IS VERY underhanded.

I hope they address this dishonest approach to advertising.

Hi

. . . . I hope they address this dishonest approach to advertising. . . . .

The Magix Network Sync/Connect/Update Notifier is more than just an advert pop-up - it has two other functions - Cloud import and File transfer from Camera MX (an Android app) and the pop-ups can be disabled from within Updater if you use either of the other functions.

It is much more user friendly than 2 well known apps I use that do not give you the option to uninstall or disable pop-ups - this I consider dishonest.

After reading the above, I can understand why users object to pop ups...however, get over it. Ads are everywhere. A movie, 90 minutes long takes 3 THREE hours to run, almost 50% ads; are you complainers writing letters to them? Networks run the credits from an ending program over a starting program, signs, logos, slogans are Everywhere. If Magix is the only company you complain to, maybe examine your motives. You paid, yes, and they have more stuff to sell. Marketing is never going away; I think there's too much of it, but advertising is how things get sold and it makes the world go round. Finally, perspective: you have to move your mouse a few centimeters and press your index finger down...is that really all that disruptive? Is your focus so tenuous that a popup breaks it? And since they openly provide a workaround to respect your time on the computer, I see no need to deride the practice. Magix makes great products.

Thanks!

Eh? Fair enough if it was free like Farcebook but we paid good money and still get hassled (well, I used to, MEP2021 is leaving me alone at the moment). I pay $2 for an app on my phone to stop the ads in the free version. Surely it's not too much to ask for a program that costs over $100 to not keep spamming us?

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

I agree with your take on Magix's adverts. However, I admit I'm possibly more allergic to advertising in general than most people - even though I'm told the human race is doomed without it. I've disabled and/or deleted any file that even looked as if it might facilitate Magix dropping adverts onto my screen and for a while I thought I'd got rid of all of them for good - yet still I get a very occasional invitation to upgrade. No chance of that: I'm happy with what I've got - with all its warts.

The popups actually stop my production and I lose the last thing I did when they pop up. There are other products out there that are great that actually cost less, and I don't get the ads. I do like Magix software but if I want something, I'll look for it, not have it shoved in my face.

Xara-customer7644 wrote on 3/19/2022, 12:12 PM

Yeah...you like ads, just install more ad bots.
I'm off to uninstall 'Connect'. I recommend the devs rename this app to 'Annoying Ads from Magix' so it's easier to uninstall.
If this doesn't work I'll just uninstall Music Maker, etc. This isn't the only product of this type, so if this product chooses to display ads, I'll choose to take my business to another app.

Xara-customer7644 wrote on 3/19/2022, 12:14 PM

Tip also, in Windows, when you go to uninstall apps, change the sort to 'Install Date'. This will help you identify apps with shady deceptive names such as Connect.

Hi

Adverts are a fact of life in the age of marketing driven sales for software irrespective of the brand.

At least with Magix software the Update Notifier only appears once on start up and you do have 2 options depending on whether you use the Wifi transfer/Camera MX and/or Cloud Import feature(s).

  1. If used - turn off the notifications as shown below

  2. If not used - uninstall it.

I have several none Magix programs, 2 of which are expensive and they have adverts in them, either on start up or close, and there is no option to get rid of them.

Installing a program without explicitly stating you are installing and getting permission is very shady and a business practice that will sink your brand and lead to bankruptcy. But I guess most businesses care more about quarterly reports than long term customers.

When anyone downloads software there is a box you have to tick saying you have read and understood the terms and conditions of the contract before download can commence. Any additional clauses and where to find them are also included it the general terms and conditions for the consumer to further look up before continuing the download.

Anyone not bothered to read such agreements do so at their own risk.

Even so, if anyone is bothered to delve deeper there are certain get out clauses that Magix would have to comply to under EU law and are given in further Magix documentation found here under section 6 of their Privacy Policy with contact details and further instructions as to how to have your instructions implemented.

Downloading software without bothering to find out the terms and conditions is like buying a car without finding out what is not covered by that manufacturers warranty which can vary a lot from one manufacturer to another.

While individuals may not like some companies general policies on how they conduct business, the business has the right to conduct their business model however they wish within the laws of their country. If selling their products abroad they may have to further comply with either international law or individual laws of the country they conduct business in.

I have never met an adult in my life that has not heard the equivalent saying of 'Check the horse has a leg in each corner' before concluding a sale.

I do understand though it is much easier and quicker to complain after the act than to be bothered do the proper research before a purchase, even if the the act of complaint often doesn't result in the desired outcome.

Wow this thread is still going... Anyway, I do not mind the start up update reminders which often have good offers, they are easily clicked away. It was the connect app ads that kept popping up that was the problem but after uninstalling connect, the problem is solved. Also, I agree that ads are vital and a source of income for many companies today but it is not unreasonable to expect paid programs (whether one time lifetime license or subscription based license) to have no ads as if the program was freeware/shareware.

Xara-customer7644 wrote on 3/20/2022, 12:53 PM

Always do your proper research and read every EULA in full before spending $1 at Humble Bundle.
Yeah, don't have time for that. Or Adware.

They should patch out the install of 'Connect'.  That's what the customers want and it's the right thing to do.

There is a steady encroachment of ads on everything.  The line must be drawn at things that are paid for, or everything will have intrusive ads all the time.

Wineblue2 wrote on 4/19/2022, 10:15 AM

Excuse me? I own many various music platforms including Adobe Audition, Reason 12, Ableton Live 11 and others and I guarantee you that NONE of them use such ridiculous marketing tactics. Why? Because they wouldn't have as many customers if they were cramming their ads down your throat like it or not! I for one have no intentions of renewing until this is no longer a problem as I have always hated the fact that despite my purchasing your software I have to take additional steps to ensure I am not being spammed! Yes, spammed as in the unsolicited transmission of advertising not otherwise Opted into. Go ask ICANN what they think of it! Any company that forces this on others more than likely are so obscure I'm amazed you bothered even mentioning that!

This is not a shady practice it is becoming a very common feature with software and web sites, with some there is no way at all to disable or opt in.out.

I agree with your comment there should be an opt in/out option.
