How to add sub title from a SRT file to my movie Video

srisudarshan wrote on 6/6/2012, 3:22 AM

I have my movie in MPG format; I have one SRT file; The example of this SRT file:

1
00:02:29,250 --> 00:02:31,047
Hold your breath!

2
00:02:32,119 --> 00:02:35,145
Now in front of
this wonderful crowd...

I want to synchorize this Sub-title file into MPG movie. One option is: Go to the particular scene, say, here 02:29,250 and then, use the title editor and do the cut and paste job. But, this job will be elaborate and laborious. Is there any other way so that this sub-title file fits to the Movie. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi

MEP does not currently support srt or any other subtitling file format.

To speed things up a little - once you have done the first title, copy it (include the additional components if it is an animated title) and paste it at the times you require - you then only have to change the text (and length if you need to).

A thought, in the middle of the night here, you might check out VirtualDub subtitler filter:

http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_filters.html

MEP can use many of vdub's filters if you frame serve from it.

ADDED: And now that I'm more awake... IIRC some of the vdub filters will work as MEP plugins. John is correct that MEP can't do it on its own.

Hi CPC000CPC,

I had downloaded subtitler-2_4.zip file and unzipped the file Subtitler.vdf into plug-ins, Titles folders. But, when I click in the plug-ins Tab,  "The following error occured while processing the plug-in" "The plug-in cannot be loaded". Hence, my question is: Which folder I should save this Subtitler.vdf. Or could you explain us on how to use the s*.vdf plug-in. I am just a level above the beginner or intermediary user.

(OR) could you suggest us any good viable software to accomplish the task of sub-titling in one go. if we have a properly formatted *.SRT" file.

Regards.

srisudarshan,

Sorry I've not done much at all with the filter beyond trying it a long time ago. :-( IIRC I got some progress using the 'frame serving' I mentioned. Rather than having MEP use the filter directly, VDub uses the filter to apply the subtitles to your video and then sends the results, frame by frame as needed, to MEP. In VDub you start the frame server and create a dummy file which is added to the timeline and communicates between VDub and MEP.

There was quite some discussion on using vdub on the old Magix forum:

http://support2.magix.net/boards/magix/index.php?showtopic=33526

Also one of the forum users did his own tutorial on frame serving -- and lots of other great stuff as well:

http://www.aaproductions.net/mep/tips/import/frameserving/frameserving.htm

Hope this help,

Carl

Hi,

No subtitle in MEP you must do manually and is a lot of work don't loose your time to try to add or find a plugin. Low price video editor has no subtitle function the only low price program is Cyberlink Power Director. Personaly I use Aegisub to hear the movie and type the text to create the srt file. The easiest solution to create and adjust the text synchronized to the voice is Camtasia Studio. For English people YouTube is the best solution you upload the movie and an automatic function create the close caption naturally you must check the text but about 90 % is right you can export the srt to your application.

YR: I think that six year gap might be an all time record! 🙂

@terrypin

I agree. Perhaps it's "time" this thread was closed to any further comments.
