How do I run or use the relevant sequence from movie for chapters, apart from the menu?

srisudarshan wrote on 9/4/2012, 7:43 AM

I created a Movie or home video footage for an hour with 4 different chapters. When I am trying to burn a DVD or prepare a DVD, under Disc Options.. Design  page.. I can click video button (at the right side of the software windows), I can select "Use sequence from movie". It was good to start off as a movie or under first Menu page.

I had created 4 chapters. When I go to chapter menu page, I see only a static image, relevant to the chapter marking. If I click the video, then it applies to all 4 chapters, in the background.

Instead of it, I want my individual chapters to be dynamic and sequence are to used for a minute or two from the footage. But, I do not see any command; When I double click the chpater, under Menu entry properties windows,  I get "Use frame from movie" or "Use other Graphic" buttons;

Any help in using the sequence from movies for the individual chapter is welcome.

Hi

My first reaction to this was no way is this possible - then I had a flash of inspiration - it can be done - the trick is to fool the viewer into thinking the buttons are animated.

The procedure is a little long winded - when I have time I may do this as a tutorial.

Animated Chapters.

1.   Complete the editing of the project you want to add the animated chapter menu to; add the chapter markers to the timeline, make a note of how many there are, and save the project.

2.   Starting with a new project in MEP

3.   Add the video clips you want to use as buttons on the chapter menu; for a clean chapter menu page do not add more than 6

The clips need to be as long as the length of the menu ie minimum 30 secs and ideally no longer than 60 secs.  Trim the clips so they are all the same length.

4.   Resize and position the video clips so they are in the correct places/order on the screen.

Do not position them near the edges of the screen as they may be clipped by TV overscan.

5.   Add a background image of your choice - if you use a video clip use an abstract movie, as you want display the animated buttons clearly, and trim the length to match the 'buttons'. Save the project for future use or making changes.

6.   Export the movie as a mpg or mp4, selecting the same resolution and aspect ratio as the movie in step 1,  you will use this later

Repeat steps 3 - 6 for each additional chapter menu you need.

7.   Open the project you are going to add the animated chapter menu to and select the menu chapter page for editing.

8.  Select the Purple Glass menu template and apply it to the menu page(s).

9.   Select the chapter page to be edited and click the In arranger button on the right of the editing screen, this will open the chapter timeline for editting

10.   Replace the image/movie on the timeline, ie the current background of the chapter menu, with the movie you created in step 6.

If you do not want the chapter overlays to appear immediately, drag the menuloop marker to the time that you want them to appear, 2 - 4 seconds is sufficient.

11.   Add any background sound/music if you wish.

12.   Click the Burning tab again to close the editor - apply the changes.

13.   Adjust the position and size of the button overlays so they are over the 'buttons', in the correct order, by clicking on each one and dragging the edges to resize and the centre to position.

If you want to remove the numbers double click each overlay and delete the number in the text and apply the changes.

14.   Under Design Page on the right side of the menu editing page, click the  ...  button next to Video and check/select the following options:

Play menu as an endless loop

Repeat background video length of menu animation

Length of menu .... determined by  Length of movie.

15.   Save the project.

Repeat steps 9 - 14 for each additional chapter page if needed.

Modify the main menu page background video to match the chapter menus.

Save the project and create your DVD with animated menus.

It is good and wonderful idea; I do not know why it did not strike me. That is why what I am as a novice and what you are as a Mod.

Thank you very much.
