No, that is not the only option.

The way to import any supported file type is through the File Manager.

Make sure you are NOT in Easy Mode.  The switch is just below the MAGIX logo in the upper left corner.

In the media pool at the bottom of the screen you will find tabs for Soundpools, File Manager, Synthesizer, and Templates.

Click on the File Manager tab and locate the file you want on your hard drive.  The file can then be treated just like any soundpool object.
