How do I choose which movie setting I use in program start

in progam start which movie setting do I use I know where to find the settings but need to know which ones to use for my system and how to work it out

Go to File - Settings, here you have Movie Settings and Program Settings. Shortcuts are E and Y

There is no single answer to this question - it all depends on the source material and what you intend to produce from it.

Your source material and movie settings have to be at least the same resolution as the final output otherwise you will lose quality, you can downscale without losing quality ie HD movie to standard DVD is OK but you cannot satisfactorily go the other way.
