How do I assign inputs from AI to individual tracks?

I have 10 line inputs on my audio interface. I have multiple pieces of external gear (synths) that I slave via midi to the interface and MM sees that all and works well. The problem I have is that each piece of gear is plugged into a "line in" and I then assign a track in the daw to that specific "line in" usually but I am unable to do that it would seem in MM.

Example: Roland JDXi is slaved to AI via midi and triggered with a midi keyboard and MM records the midi no prob. But to get the audio out I have to click the setup wheel down by the tracker controls (play button) and switch to inputs 3+4 (stereo). How do I assign inputs 3+4 to track 3 permanently?

Surely you can do this as even the most rudimentary music tracking software going back decades has been able to do this? I have clicked on everything and looked everywhere but I cannot find a way to assign audio inputs to individual tracks.

I just purchased the premium version to help a friend out and to help him get started and with all the loops and built in features, after doing a little research this seemed like a lightweight way to get him started, but this is a pretty big deal breaker if one is working with external gear and needing to constantly switch which inputs are being pulled from.

Surely I am mistaken and simply cannot find the assignment function!

Help!

@dirtcheap

Welcome to the Magix forums.

No, unfortunately you are not! MM is NOT a fully-fledged multitrack DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) where the assignment of different inputs to different tracks is a requirement; I believe the creators of the software never really envisaged such use for a product which is primarily designed for music creation using loops and MIDI.

For what you are wanting to do, as I'm sure you know, there are quite a number of alternative softwares; Magix themselves offer Samplitude (Pro) and even the (very high-end) Sequoia as their true multitrack audio products.
