How do I access Magix Music Editor

Bahny wrote on 3/11/2013, 11:03 AM

I have Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium version 11.0.6.4 which is supposed to have Magix Music Editor as  Bonus software.

How do I access it?

In my early days with this software I'm sure I used the Music Editor (I think) to edit a piece of soundtrack. I accessed it by highlighting the clip I wanted to edit, right clicking it and selecting Music Editor from the drop -down menu, although it was very hit-and-miss whether it actually appeared in the menu. I now would like to use it again but even after several hours of trying I have given up and now asking for advice. Thank you.

I have a desktop PC with Windows XP Home Edition

Bahny,

It should be in the 'Musiceditor' folder within your MEP installation folder. Check also your 'Path settings' tab under 'File' >> 'Settings' >>'Program settings' where you can specify your audio editor.

Carl

Hi Carl.

Thanks for your response which helped to put me on the right track.

The path turned out to be OK as you advised and I had already found the software under "Program files ...." etc but was puzzled why I couldn't access it from within MEP. However, I have found out why not. I had uploaded an old .mp4 file and the resulting audio track is a .HDP file and not .ogg. When I inserted a Slide Show Music track and right clicked on it the drop-down menu gave me the option to "Edit wave externally.." I just need now to sort out if it's possible to convert the file to .ogg. I'm sure itmust be.

Once again, many thanks.

Hi Bahny.

An .HDP file is NOT an audio file, I think, but rather the graphic representation of the file. The original audio file must still be on your computer, somewhere; it may be that Music Editor cannot open/read such a file.

To convert it to something that Music Editor can handle you have two choices, at least: 1. convert the file in any suitable convertor program from .mp4 to .wav (for best quality), then import that to your timeline, group and lock it to your video track, then open it in Music Editor, or 2. using the original file on the timeline, choose to "Export>Audio as .wav", allow MEP to do the conversion, insert the new file on the timeline, delete (or simply mute) the original file, opeh this new file in Music Editor.

Thanks Jeff

I managed to find my original AVCHD files and converted them to mp3 which MEP seems to like or at least doesn't object to and I can now open them up in Music Editor quite happily.

As far as I'm concerned that's problem solved.

All I have to do now is edit one clip to remove somebody's swear words ;-) ... [ not mine honestly ]. However, that's a job for tomorrow.

Many thanks.
