How can I record sound from my synthesizer?

I am a beginner. I have YAMAHA SY77 (Synthesizer). I would like to record my playing sound into Magix Music Maker16. I just bought AudioBox USB(Interface). I try to record my playing sound by clicking AudioRecord, but it does not work. I connected cables from my synthesizer output L/R to input plugs for microphone/Instrument of AudioBox USB and connected to my computer by a USB cable.

Is the any setting I need to do before recording? I have not connected cables for MIDI because I do not think it is related to record audio sound.

Hi,

First of all with your Audio Box, you have gotten, Driver, Cubase LE 4 or 5, Did you install your Audio Box driver? if so after that did you do proper settings in your computer control panel/Sound Play and Record? Did you also make settings in Magix Music Maker?

If you have installed Audio Box driver then first go to computer control panel open Sound then in Play and Record set that to your Audio Box and clikc OK and left.

Note your Audio Box should be connected with computer with the USB cable you got.

Now open Magix Music Maker and and on Key Board click "P" it will opne Program settings window and under Audio/Midi look at left side

Audio Playback and ASIO driver set it to your Audio Box from drop down menu.

You can refer image. Earlier I used to use my computer Sgmatel driver now got Tascam Audio Interface you can see in the image too.

Note: Connent Yamaha synthesizer according to your Audio box guide with the audio interface and audio interface must be connected with the computer via usb cable.

After doing all above settings click on Synthesizer in Magix Music Maker click on Vita or Revolta then play around.

NOTE: If needed you better turn off Yamaha sound.

Hope this answer will give you some hints.

Thank you

If you are trying to record the *sound from your SY77*, you will NOT be using Vita (MIDI editor) or Revolta (VSTi synth).

You will be doing a direct audio recording!

I'd recommend first having a basic rhythm (drum) track at your chosen tempo already laid out...or, at least the tempo chosen and the metronome turned on.

Did you follow the instructions precisely when you installed the driver and interface?

I assume you are not using a FireWire connection, but you should also double-check their hardware incompatibility list just to be sure.

With that said....there may be a problem.  According to the manual, you can only connect a synth/keyboard using the MIDI (non-audio) inputs on the rear of the unit.

The instrument inputs on the front of this AudioBox unit are made for only low level signals from guitars.  Keyboard/synth audio outputs are a high, line level signal !!!

Unfortunately, the Yamaha SY77 does not have an output level (HI/LO) switch on the rear panel.

You should contact PreSonus tech support before going any further.

Thank you both guys. I am really happy now. I could record my sound from SY77 to Magix Music Maker 16. I really thank you.
