Please read this post and come back with more details about your computer specification

If you used the search box on the right and search for 'jerky playback' you would find many answers to this question.

Video editing is a very intensive operation and uses a lot of computer power - if your computer is not of sufficiently high specification to handle HD movies smoothly with the preview monitor resolution set to full or you have too many other programs running in the background - this can be the cause of the problem.
