Hi guys. I'm having problems installing updates using Magix Installation Manager. Some of the downloads are relatively large and after downloading any given component, like Fade Effects, It says the actual and expexted size are not the same.

Hi.

I'm running a quad core machine with windows 7 pro with 4GB RAM.

I use Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus Download version with the latest update.

I have 1Mbps ADSL (South Africa...) and struggle to download the components from Magix Installation Manager.

The Manager does not appear to be able to resume a download if for some reason something goes wrong.

I also noticed that at the main screen where you select the updates / components you want to download, if you move the scroll wheel on your mouse, the screen refresh and then displays another language. surely this cannot be by design?

The downloads also seem very slow. My downloads never seem to go faster than 32KB/s even though my connection is much faster.

Often, when the download is about 80% complete, the last bit seems to download very fast and the progress bar then jumps to 100%. When the downloaded package tries to run it complains that the actual and expected sizes are not the same.

I'm now trying for the 4th time to download the fade effects. This is a waste of bandwidth...

Hello nevilleswartz1980.

The simple answer to your question is, whenever possible, always buy the boxed version of the product!  However, I am not sure that such a solution is available to you in South Africa so...

Unfortunately, you may have no option but to continue to try to download these components you want.  As to the speed, I'm not sure that 32KB/s on a 1Mbps line is actually that "slow".  I know that, theoretically, geographical distance is no barrier to file transfer but your files will be coming from either USA or Germany, I think, perhaps through many "interconnections", any one or more of which may be slowing the transfer.

You talk of the MAGIX installation manager.  Is this a separate program or do you mean the facility to download from within the program?   I've never seen the behaviour you refer to on the update/component selection screen (changing language) though I do remember once when I had downloaded MEP MX Premium (it was a special offer from MAGIX, not available as a boxed version) when I tried to use it it would not scroll with the mouse wheel.

Sorry to not be able to offer any other help!

Jeff

Hi

I have seen something similar to the mouse behaviour ie unexpected actions, where the mouse wheel not only rotates but is also a third button, push the wheel down and see if it clicks.

In a web browser,  the default action with these mice is to start the page scrolling, the mouse pointer changes to a disc with a black up and down arrow on it.

32KB/s download is about 1/3 the maximum theoretical from a 1Mb/s link

Yes, the Magix Installation Manager is the program that pops up if you go to Help, then select Online Updates. It then shows a menu where you can download additional components like animated dvd menu templates, fades, herogliph, and others. While this menu is open, try to scroll the wheel on your mouse. The language will change after what appears to be a screen refresh (That is if this is not only an isolated issue.)

Thanks for the responses. I managed to download the fade effects. I think magix can improve the stability of the installation manager a lot. It often says not responding. It reports the progress of the download incorrectly. It cannot resume a broken download. Now for the larger downloads...
