hardware upgrade for MEP17?

Hey there,

I've had some performance issues with MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17... stuttering footage, program becoming unresponsive during playback, etc.  I'm about to start editing some complex sequences with a number of effects (quick cuts, crossfades, color-correction, blur masks, and so on), and I anticipate the process becoming unbearable at this rate.

I'm assuming this is mostly a hardware issue, and hoping that I can upgrade my system to handle this kind of work better.  But, as I'm fairly computer-illiterate, I figured I'd try and get some outside opinions on how to get up to speed.

I think these are the relevant specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD Phenom II x4 840 processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6800.

Any assistance/advice/opinions would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

Hi

Personal opinion - I would skip the AMD processors and go for an Intel quad core i3 or i5, however it does depend on your budget.

My spec would be:

Intel i5 quad core processor (Sandybridge), 12 - 16GB RAM, 2 hard drives - one for system, the other for all the video files etc., Graphics card dependant on whether 3D is involved, but any decent card which is CUDA or OpenCL capable, Windows 7 Professional.
