General update question...

Dosco wrote on 12/6/2015, 4:20 AM

I have Movie Edit Pro15 purchasewd in March 23009 and for the last two years have done nothing with it but now I AM BACK with my updated to Windows 10 desktop (same computer different OS) The program loads and works well it plays back a previous project.

I have made some changes to a project - update etc - and  all seems fine however I am unable to copy to DVD as "burner cannot be found" showing the following error message " DIIav32.dII Version 6.1.124"

I managed to burn the project through an indirect route after saving the file and using the windows utility. however when I tried to play the DVD on my Blueray player nothing was present so clearly I have not got the correct file format and I have misplaced my manuals but memory seems to tell me it should have been in MPEG format?

Can anyone help with the above please?

Hi

MEP 15 is not compatible with Windows 10 - this is due to changes made by Microsoft in the way Windows works and the removal of support for old programs.

The DVD issue is one of the problems that occurs, there may be others you have not found yet.

You need to upgrade to a Windows 10 compatible version of MEP ie MEP 2016, however if your computer may also need upgrading depending on its age and specification.

The manual is also installed as a PDF file which should be available under Movie Edit Pro, Documentation in the start menu.

Many thanks for this so I need to consider the upgrade although my PC is about 9 years old it does have good spec.

Can I still retain the projects and transfer them to MEP 2016 or even across to a new PC?

Hi

. . . . about 9 years old it does have good spec . . .

What is the computers specification?

. . . . Can I still retain the projects and transfer them to MEP 2016 or even across to a new PC? . . . .

If you decide to upgrade your computer - which is probably a good idea given the age of the current one - then the easiest way is to take the hard drive out of the old computer and use a USB to IDE converter, such as this, to connect the old drive to the new computer and copy all the files you need across.

I would not use the old hard drive as a second drive in the new computer given its age and capacity.

If you keep all the data you need in the Documents (My Documents) folder than you can copy across the entire contents from the Documents (My Documents) on the old drive to the new computer's documents folder if required.

Hi

If you decide to upgrade I would recommend the following:

  • Intel i5 - 6th generation processor

  • Gigabyte motherboard to suit processor and with at least 4 dual channel memory slots, 10 USB ports and on-board graphics.

  • 16 GB of memory minimum

  • Blu-Ray burner - I use LG and have found them to be very reliable.

  • 1Tb minimum hard drive for OS and programs

  • 2 TB minimum second hard drive for data and video - especially if you are using or intend to do HD video editting.

Personally I would not recommend SSD drives - they are still too expensive for large capacities and when they fail they usually fail catastrophically - whereas standard hard drives you do get warnings of impending failure.
