Fresh install, won't play past 1min47sec increments. What gives?

Bradley-Sugarman wrote on 2/6/2022, 4:28 PM

Long time user of Magix MM15. Just downloaded the free version, imported 1 audio track and hit play and just can't get it to continually play play the track without stopping every 2 seconds. Didn't give me any time to experience user error. What's wrong here? Also keeps breaking my speakers. Windows 10. Anyone actually buying this software after this experience?

Thanks in advance

Edit: same problem once updated to Windows 11

@Bradley-Sugarman The audio engine changed in MM21 to a 64 bit engine which needs a lot more processing power. What is your hardware and what are your program settings in Music Maker?

@Bradley-Sugarman Maybe your i3 is a little weak for Music Maker? What are your driver settings in Music Maker (click on the gear icon in the top left > go to the tab Audio/MIDI)? Direct Sound usually works without problems for playback. You can increase the buffer size at the bottom of the settings tab.

You need to switch to ASIO (for example Magix Low Latency) if you want to monitor your audio and MIDI input in real-time. You can increase the buffer size for the Magix Low Latency ASIO drivers by clicking on the Advanced...-button and using the slider. There you can also activate your inputs and outputs in case you cannot record or hear anything.

You can try to download old version in your customer account at https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/ or at https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/product-downloads/

Gosh that's a pity. I'm just going to have to jump ship and buy someone else's product.

Tried redownloading old version and can't get past Magix telling me my computerID is incorrect. I wasn't meant to make music.

@Bradley-Sugarman You only need a computer ID for offline activation.

Nah I think the actual problem is they don't have MM15 available for download and/or I wasn't meant to make music.

@Bradley-Sugarman

Hi

. . . . Tried redownloading old version and can't get past Magix telling me my computerID is incorrect . . .  I think the actual problem is they don't have MM15 available for download . . . .

If you mean Music Maker 15, released in 2008, it is not supported on Windows 10, and is also unlikley to run correctly on modern PC hardware.

However, if you mean Music Maker 2015, this should be available to download in your account at magix.com. Login there with the email address and password used to register the software and select My Products.

Yeah Music Maker 15. Worked fine up until very recently, as stated in other posts. I'm about to update to Windows 11 and see if that helps as one users stated his worked on a laptop with 11 (but maybe he meant 2015 as well). Otherwise I can't explain why it worked in 2021 and not 2022. In the Music Maker 15 it boots up great except for some sort of paywall that I used to be able to close but now it is a grey box and unclosable so I've uninstalled.

Audacity is pretty clunky, looking into Reaper while Windows 11 installs in case that doesn't work. Don't want to buy Magix if the free version isn't plug & play.

Edit: Windows 11 install did not fix Music Maker 15

Windows 11 didn't help with the current free Magix download either. I don't know what fancy computer you guys are using to run this program but all my latencies are set to low and my computer is up to date. I'm not even trying to record anything, I'm just using it as a 1 track media player and it can't function. At a loss for words.

Edit: downloaded some extra ASIO drivers. I don't know why I'm still trying.

SP. wrote on 2/6/2022, 6:54 PM

@Bradley-Sugarman You need to set the latencies to HIGH or else your processor hasn't enough time to process the audio. Core i3 processors are for word processing and web surfing. That is why I guess, that here lies your problem. My Core i7-3770k is now ten(!) years old and still more powerful than your Core i3 from 2019. I also use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 USB audio interface which processes the audio instead of my processor. This helps a lot with performance on my old computer.

Ha that makes sense but is also silly of a program not intended for professionals. Looks like I'm just going to learn Audacity. Close enough. Beats giving up on music.
