Frame Could Not Be Calculated

sunago wrote on 8/31/2023, 8:02 PM

This is a new problem for me. I updated an older Magix file with new content (which I have done successfully many times in the past), but now it won't render the MP4 (either through the menu dialog or the shortcut in the upper-right corner). It crashes in the same place each time (about 800 frames in) and gives the message: "The export was aborted. The frame could not be calculated." Any thoughts on what to do here? I can't seem to copy and paste into a new file... and I do NOT want to redo a whole day's editing work. SOS!

@sunago Hi, it sounds like one of your files is broken, try exporting the project in parts until you break it down to a point where you find the broken file, use the Range option (blue selection at the top of the timeline) Export range only in the export window,

@sunago

Try exporting to high-quality MXV (1.4GB/min for 85% quality) and then bring that back into your project and re-export to MPEG 4. MXV is Magix' proprietary lossless video format.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Thank you, Gid! Your suggestion led to a breakthrough! Turns out it wasn't one of my files that was broken, but one of the transition effects was! I tried your range export idea and was able to export most of the movie until I found the problem. Once I reset that transition effect to a basic cut, the entire video rendered perfectly. You saved me HOURS of rework and I can't thank you enough! I really appreciate this forum!

Hi James.

Would it be possible to name the transition please for us to test in case it is a general problem? It may be that the effect is fine but that trying to mix two file types, frame speeds or resolutions may be the cause of the problem, as calculating and blending that transition may have caused the system to trip, or your system may not have been powerful enough to cope with that combination of differences. Whereas a butt join at that point in those circumstances would have alleviated that problem. Did you try a different transition and get the same result?

On the specs pages for the programs there is a warning about having a system that only meets the minimum specs or even having a system that is better than the minimum specs and states that to use some of the effects may cause problems due to a weak performance of a weaker performing machine. Or it could be due to mixing certain files types/resolutions/frame rates has not been tested and found to cause problems. The more information we get, the more we can test out a given problem to see if it is a universal problem or a system problem. If the problem can be recreated by some users and not others then we can work out if it is due to component problems, an effect problem not caught in the testing of the program, or mixing file types/specs when transitioning problem.

I agree with this, we both have the UHD 630 iGPU and can test to see if the transition is the issue.

Additionally more details on the video formats of the 2 clips the transition is between would help - download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse the 2 video clips for all the data required.

I'll see what I can figure out. I saved the file with the cut instead of the transition, but I have 7 more files to update and I bet one of them has the same transition. It's also important to note that I changed the movie settings from its original 720p to 1080p. That may have played a role. Also, the transition was taking a moving text template to black (it wasn't a transition between two video clips). Finally, I posted my system specs earlier. They far exceed the minimum requirements. I have been using Magix software for over a decade... and this is the first time this problem has ever happened. I hope that helps you all!

I'll see if I can find out which specific transition effect gummed up the export... and I'll see if it does this again with one of the other 7 files I am updating.

Thanks again!

@sunago

Hi James.

Thanks for the additional information.

Your system specs should be in your posts SIGNATURE section so as people who may not have seen or remember your earlier posts know where to look for it. That would help.

One thing I noticed about your supplied information above that may help is if you wish to change the resolution of an exported file it is much less strain on the computer system as a whole to alter the export settings rather than the movie settings. The quality of the export should be the same but it should help playback smoothness while editing the project.

Also, according the the specs you provided in your first post you are relying on an inboard Intel graphics chip (630) and do not have a second dedicated graphics card which would help greatly when dealing with changing resolutions or using effects. Where the use of a third party video card is of huge benefit when calculating 3D graphics that the program has to do to create changes in the images while they are either blended during a transition or resized.

Do you mean this was a moving title template overlay that faded to black eg similar to the example below?

. . . . relying on an inboard Intel graphics chip (630) and do not have a second dedicated graphics card . . . .

I tested this and in the case of the Magix title templates this does not make much difference the UHD 630 calculates the effects almost at the same speed as my RTX 2060 - the difference is <10% as measured on long title (30s) exports.

However if third party title templates plug-ins are being used then the difference depends greatly on the plug-in manufacturer's GPU optimisation and may revert back to CPU processing.

I did - 4K UHD 3840 x 2160 to FullHD 1920 x 1080 as well as the 4K UHD export runs. I left the Import and Export settings to the RTX and only changed the Processing option between UHD 630 and RTX 2060.

As an aside, the current project I am working is 'still image heavy', with 4 video clips, 50 images, 4 titles, 2 speech bubble overlays and crossfade transitions, exports faster using the RTX, UHD, RTX combination in the Device options.

Hello! Yes... except there was no image behind the title. It was a moving title on a black background - just a chapter marker. No third-party plugins, etc.

sunago wrote on 9/2/2023, 12:20 PM

All, here is the requested information:

  • Moving Title Template: 2015_Intro_Atomic.TFX
  • Length: 4s (20 frames)
  • Transition Effect Template: Blurry: Linear horizontal
  • Background image/video: none (black)
  • AUDIO: mp3 file (7.223 KiB) Playtime: 4s 874ms

I tried to recreate the problem with another file by first converting from 720p to 1080p (like I did before) and then exporting the range in question. I could not recreate the anomaly. There might be other factors that I'm unaware of or it might have just been a random gremlin. Not sure.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi

Thanks for the additional info.

Tested using MEP/Movie Studio 2023 and have no exporting issues using UHD 630 GPU only with the Atomic (Atomar) tile and Blurry Linear Horizontal fade out.

However it is worth noting that he Blurry linear horizontal fadeout does cause a switch over from the iGPU to CPU for processing this effect, and this may be random glitching.

I too unfortunately can't find the Atomic (Atomar) Title as my collection doesn't go back as far as 2015.

I am also confused by the line. Length: 4s (20 frames) Is that five frames per second total or five frames per second?

Either way, that's an odd frame rate.

This is partially my fault sorry. I was looking at what James @sunago wrote on his first post quoting version 19.0.2.58 which I thought was much older but turns out to have been released around 2/12/2020, which I guess would make it MEP 2021.

I appear to have skipped that version or have upgraded from it. Either way I also cannot find the Atomic (Atomar) Title although I do have the transition and that is not causing me any problems.

@CubeAce Weird, I just wrote a comment but when clicking Comment it posted a copy of my previous comment, I've seen this before 🤷‍♂️

Yep I Googled it & 2020 came up, & yep I'd have had all previous versions, the update/upgrade overwrite I've always accepted but is a pain sometimes,

@CubeAce I had a look online, I could only find 2017 & 2020 video clips, they both have Atomar. Still don't know about 2015 but Magix doesn't change much over the yrs so it may not exist.
