Fragmented Demo Files.. Bummer first experiance

Mark-Mignery wrote on 1/30/2020, 12:09 PM

After downloading and running (installing) Music Maker. Then allowing it to do an update for the first time I found that all the demo songs were fragmented.. As in spaces imbedded within each clip (Part whether it was midi of audio) that made each one stutter.. to the point it was unbearable. If this is the demo.. Then how good is the rest of this program? I am not a first time user. I also am experienced in Pro Tools and Ableton. My computer is a Dell XPS Tower running the latest update with windows 10 with an Intel I5 processor, 16 gb of ram, Nvidia graphics, SSD drive+ 1TB HD. What do I need to do so at least I can run the demos and go through the Tutorials??

@Mark-Mignery

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . all the demo songs were fragmented.. As in spaces imbedded within each clip . . . .

Can you post a screen shot of a demo showing this fragmentation

This is what Chart Hits looks like on my laptop and plays OK on my laptop

Check that the Audio/Midi settings are as shown below

What is the full model code of the processor ie i5-????? and which audio card/chipset is installed?

First thank you for your quick response.. My processor is an Intel i5-9400 running at 2.90 Ghz. My "sound card" is a USB Avid Eleven rack. Here is a screen shot of the "audio file."

Here is a better screen shot of what I mean by "fragmented Files." and a screen shot of my settings.

Hi Mark,

Files are not fragmented. The demo is made up of Soundpool loops, which are from 1 to 8 bars long and that is what you are seeing. You need to learn and understand how Soundpools work. See my tutorials:

and the tutorials on the Magix.com site.

If you are not getting a smooth playback, then that is a different problem that has something to do with your computer or the program settings as pointed out by John EB.

Please learn how to take screen shots properly using your computer. We do not take pictures of the computer with a camera.

I may know what you're talking about, and if so, it's a bug in the Music Maker sound driver that appears on occasion. When it happens, you can go down to the little arrow in the lower right hand side of your computer screen and open up the hidden icons menu. There will be a little green box with a white triangle. This is the icon for the driver, and clicking it opens up the settings screen for the driver. Opening it and closing it restarts the driver and 95% of the time will fix that problem. If it doesn't, do it again. If it still doesn't (incredibly unlikely), do it again. If it continues being broken then it's likely a different bug than the one I'm thinking of.

I tried it.. It is pretty slick. Kinda resembles ASO4ALL.. but it didn't do the trick. I really believe that it's in the Wav and Midi files in the demos. Not the sound driver. You can see the blank areas within each as it plays. That is why it stutters. And it is on each track at the same place. Is there a way I can send you a sample of one of these demo projects so you can look at it on your end? Otherwise I doubt we can resolve this problem.

Hi

. . . . I really believe that it's in the Wav and Midi files in the demos. Not the sound driver. . . . .

If that were so then every user of Music Maker (MMM) would be having the same problem.

. . . . My "sound card" is a USB Avid Eleven rack . . . .

Have you done the following:

  1. searched the Avid support/forums for the issue you are having?
  2. tried using the PC's built in sound card?
  3. switched the audio settings to WASAPI?

    additionally

  4. when you click the Advanced button next to the driver select button what device is set for audio output?

Note: MMM uses the ASIO drivers to access and control the sound card directly, if it is having to work through 3rd party drivers then this level of control may not be allowed.

These blank areas are called the arrangement. I had a look at the demo track mentioned. Further down the arrangement there are other loops in these "blank areas" on other tracks. The problem sounds like something to do with the audio settings.

John, I switched sound to my Nvidia HDMI and it does play out nicely to my Monitor speakers. So what is the sampling rate.. 48 K or 44.1 K?? and how many bits I.E. 8,16,32, or 64?? This should do it.. Thanks for being patient with me.

Mark-Mignery wrote on 2/7/2020, 12:07 PM

John.. After following your advice and looking up solutions from the web I found this solution. It Is in the driver settings. Here is a screen shot so others can use their Avid Eleven Rack with Music Maker!
