Also, I just tried to start a new project but Music Maker won't recognise any of the files in my soundpools and instruments now

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

Can you post the full details of the error messages you see when you try to either open an existing project or start a new one?

Thanks for responding, here's what comes up

Hi again.

On that error message screen, if you click on "Folder" and navigate to the named storage location, can you "see" the file? If so, try simply clicking on it and then MM should load it. You may, unfortunately, need to do this for all the "missing" files, at least the first time you try, but if you then immediately save the project again, hopefully MM will "remember".

One other thought: which version and variant of MM are you running? The file extension of .mxcogg suggests an older version; more recent versions have a simple .ogg extension. Is this a project created in an earlier edition of MM now being opened in a later one? If so, if you follow the procedure suggested in my first paragraph (selecting, opening and resaving) MM should remember the changes.

Thanks Jeff,

I tried clicking on the files individually as you said, but unfortunately it just returns to the error window.

MM did go through a major update, even having to reinstall itself, so I'm guessing that might be the cause of what's going on.

But it seems like I'm stuck, as I cannot load any of my projects or start a new one without going to that window, and it doesn't seem to accept the files I click on

But exactly which version of MM do you now have (check under Help>About Music Maker), and is this a later version than the one you used to create the original project? Current latest version is 27.0.2.28; I wonder, given the fact that MM is looking for ".mxcogg" files (used in "older" versions rather than the current.version's "ogg"), whether you created the project in e.g. 23.x.x.xx, or even earlier? Do you still have that earlier version on your computer (all recent versions seem to overwrite the immediately-preceding version; this was NOT the case with older ones) and you may need that older version to be "seen" by the current version in order to be able to access the correct soundpool files.

One other thought: when the program did the major update you mentioned, did you also have the option to download and install all the soundpools, instruments etc., for it?

Just one other thought: can you check exactly the file extension of any one of those soundpool files now on your computer; is it ".mxcogg" or simply ".ogg"? If the former, they are, basically, outdated (= unusable) for recent versions of the program. I suspect they may all be the "older" type, especially since you say you cannot start a new (project) because of that window appearing. Have you checked the Store tab to see if there any downloads which you are entitled to and should have?

@Robert-Glover

Assuming the projects was originally created in an earlier version, ie pre MMM 2017, then you should be able activate the features and soundpools (mxcogg files) by using Help, Activate edition . . . and entering your old versions serial number.

@Robert-Glover

Hi,

You indicated that MMM went through a major update, which I presume means a new version - a new install. In this case, you may have to go to Program settings, General options tab, and clip on Rescan Soundpools. Or, in the Media Pool of MMM (right hand screen) Loops tab, click on the gear and select Add New Soundpools, navigate to the location of the Soundpools, C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools and execute this. Note that this is under Public, and not your name.

Also, using Windows Explorer, make sure that you do indeed have the Soundpools under the above folder. If you deleted them or moved them somewhere else, then you have other problems.

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff,

The mxcogg was a proprietary format introduced by Magix a couple of years ago. Only newer versions of MMM could play these, not older ones. Magix has since reverted to ogg but the mxcogg files still work. I have the latest version of MMM, 27.0.2.28, and the exact same files as Robert, and they work fine.
