File not found error.

It automatically gets into the folder where the videos are located in. However, it won't work. I select the video it's named after. Any help with this? Because I need to continue editing this. Everything worked fine with the folder being on the desktop. Now it's an error all of a sudden. I am working with the 2016 version of the software. Not the newer version of the software.

Welcome to the Magix user to user forum.

First, it is never a good idea to store data files of any kind, including video files, on the desktop because Windows Updates can and do make alterations to the desktop contents.

Second, I note you said the folder is on the desktop, but is the actual file still in that folder and is its name, as reported in your error message, absolutely correct in all details, including things like upper and lower case, underscores, even the file extension, etc? MEP, like all apps, expects that all these things should be "absolutely right"!

Hi and welcome to the forum

From the message it would appear that the missing file is stored on the Desktop - is it actually there?

If you have a backup copy of the file you can point Movie Edit Pro (MEP) to it using the Folder option in the above dialog.

Saving files to the Desktop is not good practice and leaves them vulnerable to removal. I would suggest you create a folder within the Documents, Magix folder - the default location should be in the programs Settings, Folder tab and move all files for the current project there.

On opening the project you will receive the above message point MEP to the correct location and once all have been done save the project.

There are very good reasons for not saving files on the desktop - the main 3 are:

  1. files on the desktop are not as well protected as they are in the Documents folder and its sub folders.

  2. Windows creates at least one restore point every 24 hours. If Windows encounters an issue with the current restore point it will automatically work backwards through the saved Restore points to find a good one. If it uses an older one, or you have to manually restore to an earlier date, before the files were added to the Desktop it will delete them.

  3. If you use a Backup program it will not backup the Desktop by default - most Backup programs look for the files in the Documents folder by default - although you can change this.
