Hi,

First, you need to read the manual to understand what you are doing. You are creating a project in AML. When you save a Project, the file is saved with the extension. VIP. When done, you Export to the format that you want, like WAV or MP3.

AML, for the most part, is a non-destructive program.

Hi browj2, I recorded material from a tape and saved it to work on later. When I came to "clean it" and "master it", The file would not load as it had a VIP extension. Does this mean you must Load, clean, master and export in the same session? Thanks

Greg

@greg.byrne1

As browj2 explained, the file with the .vip extension is the "project" file, the file which contains ALL the details of any and all changes you have decided to make in AML to the original audio file which you created. In and of itself it contains NO AUDIO, merely a set of instructions which tell AML how, exactly, to playback, and later export, your finished master. Unless the .vip file has direct access to and can use the original audio file you will never be able to finish the process you started. It is most certianly not necessary to "load, clean, master and export in the same session" but you must also ensure you do not delete or move the original audio file. So, is that audio file in exactly the same location on your computer as it was when you previously worked on it in AML?

You mention about changing .vip to .wav files but haven't actually specified that .wav is the format of your original audio file.

Hi Jeff, I do seem to have a number of VIP files without any other corresponding audio file. Does this mean I didn't save the original file correctly.

Hi again.

If you do not have the original audio files anywhere on your computer then yes, it would seem you did not choose to "save" those files. Or, more likely I think, you actually moved or deleted them after "editing" them in AML since you believed the .vip files created by AML actually include the needed audio.

If the audio files are still available "somewhere" and can be reimported to your computer, you should have the option to point AML to these restored files and hence re-open each project.

If not, I fear this is one of those things you will have to put down to bitter experience! 😭
