Hi Doug

Lens correction is badly out of focus

Just a thought here - I am not sure this is the case here but it may be just that the resolution is greatly reduced when you apply processor intensive effects, as I have seen similar behaviour with recent versions and the horizon straightening effect. I suspect this may have something to do with something I read in a patch's notes a while back which said there was now something called "automatic resolution reduction" or some such, which I presumed dynamically lowered the resolution on clips heavy with effects, for smooth preview.

Thanks Peter.
I have been aware of some resolution drop on the edges but it seems to be a lot worse all over.
I only use it to correct minor fisheye from my gopro's.
Most of me filming is inside static position so the fisheye is more noticeable with ceiling lines even on medium fov.
I thought the Newblue Lens correction may have been a bit better but not so.
It is nowhere near as processor hungry as neat video so I wouldn't have thought it would have that much affect.

@Scenestealer

I have determined that the resolution drop is only in the preview while editing.
Once it is processed to whatever format, the resolution is fine. This seems to be the case for many effects.
It would be good to have an accurate idea of what the effect will look like before processing.
I'm going to spend the weekend trying new things.
Doug.

I agree but I guess it is a toss up between reduced res. or stuttering preview, which can spoil the perception of a shot with motion in it.

@Scenestealer
At least now I know applying the effect doesn't affect the final product.
I find I have been sharpening all my footage because it looks so bad in the preview.
The setting to reduce resolution for playback doesn't seem to make any difference. It looks bad whether the box is ticked or not.

Yes, I would expect that because the dynamic resolution reduction appears to be applying a bigger reduction than the 1/2 res reduction (or whatever) applied to preview after ticking the box. Not very helpful though in the sharpening effect, as you point out.

What sort of spec is your workstation? I suspect the degree of dynamic reduction is probably linked to your hardware's performance.

Biggest I could find in all in one.

HP Pavillon

16 gig ram

3.4 I7 processor

not as good as the Lenovo but Lenovo can’t supply that size anymore so I’m stuck with it

We have released a new patch: Version 16.0.1.255

This is why I would like to continue the discussion in the new thread I created: https://www.magix.info/us/forum/feedback-how-do-you-like-version-16-0-1-255--1207408

To have a better overview, I am closing this thread. Again, thank you all for the constructive feedback!
