Face and captions data saved to image file?

Does anybody know if the face and captions data is (or can be) part of the original photo data and not exist in just the Photo Manager software? I have had trouble in the past losing this data when the program became obsolete, and would like to have the info saved with the image rather than separately.

The data is held in the PhotoManager database - AFAIK there are no existing fields in the image EXIF information for such data, and adding new fields to the EXIF is not reliable or picked up by an image editing or viewing program.

The IPTC data has a Description field which is most often used for captions.

EXIF has an image description and file comment which could be used to save captions.
