Extremely Slow Rendering (Hardware acceleration not working?)

Hi. I recently purchased Video Pro X (v17.0.1.32) from a Humble Bundle. I was interested in something more capable than Filmora, which I've been using for a few years now.

The problem is that, when I try to export the movie to MP4 in Video Pro X, it will take up to 6 times more than Filmora to render it.

I've verified that the settings are the same in both programs. I suspect that Video Pro is not using my Nvidia GTX 970 to accelerate the process, while Filmora does.

Any suggestions? I really would like to use the cool features in Video Pro X, but if it is so slow, I think I'm gonna give it up.

I have an Intel i7-4790K@4.00GHz, with 32GB RAM and an Nvidia GTX 970 (4Gb RAM); running latest version of Windows 10 x64.

HI John.

Until the project crashed My export was on par with his times. I think that may be a promising sign.

While that is no guarantee and I've no idea how much extra strain the game play would put on his system he can only try and see. At least his system didn't crash rendering the project. That's more than I can claim.

I can record MEP in use on a complex MEP project without OBS dropping frames.

Not the least because it contains virtually no picture data at 540kbps! I assume this is a recording of a static desk top?

As a matter of interest how do you set the bitrate in those screen capture programs - or does it just decide itself?

Hi Peter.

No, It's a partial recoding of a TV program I was using as a test. The files are almost perfect copies of whatever I'm watching. Not sure what codec is being used but it is very efficient and seems to make full use of the new features of the newer nvidia cards.

I've never changed the settings in the program since I set it up and got it working.

I'll make another recording now just to check.

Hi all again.

Keeping in mind all your suggestions, I've tried a few things. Long story made short: rendering times in VPX have been reduced to 2'26" (1 minute less).

Detailed explanation:

My goal was to convert the clip to a Constant Frame Rate (30 FPS). I used Wondershare UniConverter to accomplish this (HandBrake was detected as malware by Microsoft Antivirus). This process took 2 minutes and 26 seconds to complete (not an error, just coincidence).

So, my conclusion is, when I work on important projects that require advanced features in VPX, I'll make sure to convert the source clips to Constant Frame Rate before editing, in order to prevent unexpected crashes. Otherwise, for less important projects, I'll stick with Nvidia Shadowplay + Filmora.

Another option, of course, is to get a better graphics card, with CUDA support. But this is something I can't afford right now.

By the way, if someone else is interested, I had difficulties recording gameplay:

* Bandicam: It always saved clips with VFR, even though specified CFR in Settings.

* OBS: Always recording black screen (I know there are workarounds to this; tried some of them to no success).

* Fraps: The only one that recorded at CFR, but resulting clips where huge for 60FPS; because of this (I guess) the rendering times in VPX were also extremely long.

A big thanks to all of you. I've learnt some interesting things.

Hi.

Glad you found some interesting information.

As for OBS Studio. It is a bit stupid and doesn't know which GPU is being used to your monitor. There is a setting where you can change the GPU from 0 to 1 or the other way around. then it should work.
