I want to export files with audio and midi intact so that I can open them in a different software. In other words, I would like to edit the midi, and the audio separately in a different software. What format would I save or export as?
You should export all the audio files as .wav. You can do this fairly easily through the "Advanced Export & Track Bouncing" dialogue. Under "Vertical/Special Functions", select "All audible tracks individually (Multitrack Bounce)". Under "Generate", choose "New Audio File" and choose "wave" as format. Sample and bit rate settings should match whatever you want them to be in whatever program you'll be using to edit. If you're not sure, the safe bet is to stick with the same format your project is. But this doesn't make MIDI files, so after exporting the audio, then you use the "Export" function to export the MIDI tracks separately as their own MIDI files.
